I love salt.

I love it so much. But, I gained a pound in a day. I am pretty sure my calories even if I logged them extremely accurately down to the medication I am taking and down to the last sugar free mint that I ate, wouldn't even come close to 3.500 calories over my TDEE. In fact I am pretty sure I was under that even without any exercise. So, it's gotta be more water on top of who knows how many pounds I am retaining. I know it's a lot cuz my calves are at least an inch bigger, possibly two inches bigger. So, with great sadness I have to cut down my sodium intake by a lot. I was crying before breakfast, because I didn't want to eat it. Sure, it turned out fine. I had some salt in it. I made a salt blend of 5 tablespoons each of onion and garlic powder and a 1/8 tablespoon of cayenne pepper, and about 3/4 tablespoon of salt. My old blend was 3 tablespoons of each of onion and garlic powder and 1/8 of cayenne and 1 tablespoon of salt. I would use 2 teaspoons of so of this blend on my food. I am using the same amount of my new blend on my food. So, the cut isn't by half, but it's pretty close.

So, anyway I just want to complain about this. Or maybe complain and get some other ideas. I know that I should avoid processed foods. I know to use more spices. So, any ideas would have to be more specific than that. Like sprinkle nutritional yeast on food. I noticed that when I was using that, my food tasted to salty if I added any salt. Or maybe someone has a specific recipe that they enjoy that doesn't need sodium to taste good. I am not a good cook, so I rely on things like salt to make my food taste good, cuz anything can taste good if you salt it right.

There are recipes online for no salt taco seasoning, cajun spice ect. They also have spice mixtures at the store with no salt. I have to watch my salt also. So I cut salt where I can & read all the ingredients. Also look for lower sodium food. Your best bet is fresh or frozen vegetables because the canned has alot of added sodium to it. Good luck!

I used to salt everything. I found that once I cut out things with a lot of added sugar and salt I didn't crave it anymore. I seriously think my taste buds were so used to all the added sugar and salt in things that vegetables and meats tasted bland without it. I would say about a month after cutting garbage food out of my diet I noticed that I no longer needed to salt and butter my vegetables because the actually had a flavor! Try to stick with it and see how your body adjusts. If your ankles are swelling and such you may also want to go to the doc for a check up if you haven't been for a while, that can be an indication of certain cardiac or kidney issues. 1lb a day isn't a big deal but it does mean that you are retaing water for some reason, could be the salt, could be something else. In the healthcare field we don't usually get concerned unless there's a 3 or 4 lb increase over a day, and that's if you have known underlying cardiac or kidney problems, but you may want to have it checked just in case :)
