To work on my off days or not...

Okay so I have access to the gym on Tuesday Thursday sat and sunday. Usually at the gym i do a bit elliptical work, a bunch on the weight machines( I know free weight are better but I don't know how to do any of them and I don't want to hurt myself. ) then I cool down with a lap or 2 in the pool That being said I tend to not do anything on the 3 days I cant go to the gym. So I was thinking of doing an at home video ( probably 30 day shred) on those days and probably get a yoga video for one of the days as a cool down day. But I don't want to burn myself out either. So what would you guys do? jsut save it for the gym or do work outs at home as well?

On the eating front I eat fairly well but I don't log because in the past it jsut stresses me out way to much and back fires into my getting frustrated and quitting. So I just eat less junk and more veggies that sorta thing.

Depending on how hard you're hitting the weights you probably need your rest days (they're an important part of any program) but a rest day doesn't necessarily imply sitting on the sofa watching TV. You can do low impact, lower intensity activities on rest/recovery days and it can be anything - walking, cycling, swimming, yoga; it's more a question of what you enjoy doing and fits into your schedule.

In my opinion, it's always good to have one complete rest day a week. On your off gym days, walking, swimming, low impact would be great. Exercise and calorie restriction are both stressors on the body. You may find your body not cooperating as well if you are over working it every day of the week. You'll see a lot of people on here with questions about not losing and doing tons of cardio 7x a week.

Find the balance. It's not a race to the finish. It's changing bad habits and putting new habits in place that will make you healthy for the rest of your life. Good luck!
