Sore Knees help

W2D2 of couch to 5k last night. My knees are sooo sore! I would think that things would loosen up part way through the session but no. Going to incorporate some extra stretching today to see if that helps. I've got new running shoes. I'm only running about 3.0-3.5 mph on a treadmill. I've been walking several miles for several months prior to starting C25K. I walk 10,000+ steps everyday (approx 5 miles). When do you know if it is sore from lack of use vs sore from injury?

I assume you mean during the run. You can't.. so it's best not to work through joint soreness.
Try to get your running form checked by a running coach, personal trainer, or physical therapist. If you can't do that, video yourself from the back & side, at knee level. If you're not sure how to assess it, post it here.
Were the shoes fitted for you at a good running shoe store, or did you buy them from a regular shoe store?

It could be the fit of your shoes. If you weren't properly fitted at a running store, then I'd suggest going to one to see if your shoes are appropriate for your feet.0

If the pain persists beyond your workout or if it's too unbearable to push through during your workout, I would go see a specialist (physiotherapist). There are so many things that lead to knee pain that it's too hard to self-diagnose, and it's better to save yourself time and money trying to fix one problem when it could be something else.0

it's called runners knee, if your just starting it will hurt for a bit. It will go away if you are doing the correct form. Look into CHI-Running (you tube) watch how they discuss correct running form and gate. Take the pressure off your knee's and run correctly and this will aid in your run and soreness. Also, get good running sneakers, loke, Merrel, Newton, asic, New balance...if you ahve a good running store near you, go there and get fitted correctly. It makes a HUGE difference.

This is just for me, but I was born with a genetic problem in my feet that needed to be corrected with casts and shoes. Then I became a dancer. When I was 14 I developed a growing problem in my knees and that combined with all my dancing also led to Patella femoral pain syndrome in my knees. Then when I was 16 I was injured in a car accident and when I was 18 I was hit by a car while riding my bike. So, anyway. I have had a lot of issues with my knees and I did go on to become a professional dancer. So, basically it has been my choice to not run for exercise. I dance, and do jumps. I lift weights for extra strength and body health. I walk for pretty much an hour on most days just getting around. I hike. I do all kinds of activity and exercise. So, I also need to take breaks and choose exercise that helps me and my body. Running isn't my passion. So, if you love it, do it. But, you could also choose another type of exercise. Physical Therapy is helpful for figuring out form issues.0

OK good advice all. I will video tape and see what I can see. Possibly be my shoes. Nike's from a sporting goods store but not fit by a pro. Better than what I had and worked great when I was just walking. Could also be that I'm still too heavy to run. I think I may also try outside to see if that is any less pounding than the treadmill???0
