Hi from Glendale Az where the sun almost always shines
its a nice 70F in middle of winter and a good day to walk
I am 62 this year, recovering from 4 bad falls last year, knee braces on both knees
left leg drags when i walk, blew out my kneecap years ago dragging tree limbs,
when my legs get bad i walk with trek poles for support, l pound wrist weights and
1 pound wrist gloves, when i fell too many times i was forced to use a mini 3 wheel walker,,
i love walking would like to chat and get encouragement from others with
bad knee injuries, see what works , what is hype, how far you and i can get
down the road before out knees give out,,
on my best day i could walk l mile in 17 minutes
walk 3 miles to post office
now i can walk that same l mile in 35 minutes
walk 2.5 miles but my legs will give out on way home
need to talk to anyone with knee braces, knee therapy, walkers 3 or 4 wheel
trek poles, or forced to walk indoors on bad days when knees wont work at all
i am easy going to any suggestions, rants, vents, or cures ,,,
inbetween health care plans waiting for new id card so surgery is out for now
walked my dogs 2 miles for 40 years Peaches our wolf husky died of cancer
after living for 15 years and my heart is not in getting another dog they would
prob outlive me..
will be glad to chat with anyone any age ..blessings

I just turned 60 almost a year ago (just realized how close to 61 I am now). I'm writing from not so sunny Ontario, Canada where it's -5*Celsius (don't know what it is in Fahrenheit but it's nowhere near 70F that much I know for sure). Broke my kneecap in 1996 while trying to walk on a wet floor that hubby had just washed and I slipped and landed on that kneecap with a bang. That was the day that we'd just buried Mom and the tears of loss mixed with tears of pain and anger --- I was a psychological mess. Needless to say, I spent almost two weeks on couch or in bed --- limped to both and to washroom --- before even being able to get to doctor's office. Still hurts sometimes and certainly stopped me from getting around without help. In 2003 I slipped and fell on a grassy knoll and broke my ankle so badly, I just sat down and my friend called for an ambulance. Once we got to the hospital and they got me into bed, there was a major power outage which lasted for about 3 days so they couldn't fix my ankle right away and I was laid up on pain killers and hospital food ---- the doctor said he could operate right away on a local anaesthetic but I said no thank you put me out and don't let me even hear the machine. They had to put in a metal plate with screws and I was in a wheelchair for quite a while. I do a lot of walking when I'm up and about which is not as often as it should be because I suffer from depression, diabetes and sleep apnea which means that I sleep a lot when I shouldn't be and don't sleep enough when I should. Anyhow, I recently bought a FitBit Flex and joined MFP in order to motivate myself to at least walk. This is working for me. Forget about the way it used to be and just keep on walking as much as you can --- that's what I'm trying to do. The past is the past and can't be changed or repeated --- we can learn from it. Today is the day we can make changes for the future and the future will be what it will be. Just keep at it and I will too. G-d bless you and keep you in good health and spirits. Add me as a friend if you'd like and I'll accept; we can motivate each other. GoldaT.0

At 64 walking is about as good as it gets for me. I do a min of 1/4 mile lap a day down a steep hill and back up. I plan to live to be 110 and may get another dog when the current one wears but I have walked even in the teens (F) as long as there is not ice on the steep hill. Because of car concerns walking without the dog is less stressful in my case.0
