Is this TDEE for me accurate? What do you think, guys?

I use this app on my phone called argus (that I freaking love!) and it uses my iPhone to track my movement. Steps and floors climbed and all that. It also takes in information from other sources like my weight and calorie information from fitness pal. I usually get the same amount of activity every day but therein lies my question.

The calorie burn estimate on here is different than Fitbit by a couple hundred calories a day. If not more sometimes. I feel like it's more accurate, but what do you guys think? It says with 7,000 ish steps I burned 3000 calories today. Sound about right to everyone? And on days where I get very little activity, it says I burn 2700

I'm a 5'8 guy that's 30 years old and weighs 233lbs.

Not the response I was hoping for but since you're a Seahawks fan, I'll give you a pass

If you want to lose weight, and assuming you aren't getting massive calories burns from exercise, start with setting MFP at sedentary and adjust your calories slowly upward until you're losing a pound a week (or whatever your goal is). If you want an excuse to eat more that you should, and then come back in 2-3 months wondering why you haven't lost weight; then do what your phone/activity tracker says.

I agree. Too high, by 300-500 calories, depending.

OP. How long have you been using this and what has your weight been doing? I'm sure these trackers are counting not only the calories you burn though activity but the calories required to actually live. MFP accounts for that though their activity level in your base measurements. There are many variations that will affect your weight. How accurate you track your food is one big one.

OH and BTW, the Hawks have the LOB, the best pass defense(and run defense) in the league. Remember when Manning threw to Sherman's side to test him?

Seems high to me (like others have said by 300-600). For a more accurate TDEE check out this site: http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/

Sound about right to me. I would say that most men maintain at 2500-3000calories a day, not saying that aren't guys who maintain on less or more.

All calculators are estimates based on general populations. And accurate TDEE requirements assume a pretty stable exercise / activity basis.

The most accurate measure of your TDEE is going to be found by tracking (accurately) everything you consume and then comparing the CICO to your weight gain or loss. For example, you track accurately over 60 days that you are consuming an *average* of 2700 calories per day, after adjusting for exericise calories burned. Over those 60 days you lost 4 pounds. Four pounds = 3500 cals x 4 = 14,000 calories. 14,000 calories divided by 60 days equals = 233 cal deficit per day. Your deficit plus your average consumption is 2700 + 233 = 2933, which would be your TDEE.

Same applies to calculating NEAT (MFP model) and accurately tracking your exercise calories.

OP - I have seen you in and out of the forums for some time -- I am presuming that you have a fair bit of data to crunch. If you don't, commit to building that reliable data starting now - RIGHT NOW. Don't fudge your numbers, don't shortchange a binge day out of embarrassment or otherwise; track, track, track accurately. It's the only way to get a good handle on your TDEE or NEAT, as opposed to an estimate based on height / weight / gender / activity level of populations similar to how you choose to describe yourself.

Did you see the last Hawks game where they were losing big time until late in the 3rd quarter and picked up the game and beat the other team with only 3 minutes left in 4th?! That was freaking insaneeeeeee. My neighbors could probably hear me screaming!! Hawks going back to the super bowl babyyyy

    Go HAWKS!!!!

I punched in all my info and it said my sedentary TDEE (not doing a damn thing) is 2612. Compared to the 2700 base of the app I use, that's not very far off. The next step up in activity says I burn 2900 cals a day. So that would also go along with what the app is telling me.

So I don't know. Numbers are confusing and I think if I look at them any longer my brain will hurt. Fitbit on the other hand totally low balls me and says even if I got 5,000 steps that day and was out and about I'm only burning 2200, which seems pretty damn low for a dude.

In other news...SO PROUD TO BE A SEAHAWKS FAN AND WATCH MY TEAM GO TO THE SUPERBOWL AGAIN LIKE MOTHER EFFING BOSSES!
