Hello All, I started my weight loss journey on Jan 2. I am 9lbs down. I am kind of frustrated because I do have about 100lbs to loose and Im use to losing a lot of weight very quickly. I am on 1600 cal diet, I work out 4 times a week and I watch everything I eat, except for one cheat meal a week. I got on the scale because I weigh myself every friday, and I lost 1 lb for the week... I do have my period so Im not sure if that is a factor. This was my best week out of three. Drank more water, ate more fruit, and worked out super hard and 1 POUND!! Just a little frustrated. Does any one have any advice? same story? anything? I appreciate it, thank you

9lbs is awesome. I to have 100lbs to lose. Just keep remind yourself that it took awhile to put that weight on and it will take awhile to take it off. Also in the long run, losing weight slowly means you will more then likely keep it off long term.0

Weight loss is not linear. You'll see weeks where you don't lose much or gain from other factors...one of which is TOM, as many women can gain 5 pounds of water in the week leading up to it.0

Awesome work so far!! Don't be down, losing weight is a process and it takes time. Patience, sweetie!! you can do this0

Keep looking at the big picture. You ate a calorie deficit-check, you worked out hard-check, you logged your foods-check...you lighter than you were last week and that is progress. Your weight will fluctuate, especially around TOM. Just keep going and keep your head up. You can do it!0

Try to remember that you didn't put the weight on overnight, it's not going to come off overnight. I started Jan 1st and am down 11 lbs. There are days when my scale doesn't budge, and then one day I'll drop 2 lbs. Your period definitely will affect your weight, but that's temporary. Just remember that this is a life-long journey and you have to have patience and keep at it. The worst thing you can do is get defeated and give up. You can do this. We all can do this.0

A loss is a loss.... That's what matters.0

i havent watched my weight for about four years. i gained 60lbs in the last four years. These last 4 years have been a horrible time in my life. God, if i could write a book. We all have been there... but I will be 30 in December and I promised myself my 30's will be much better than my 20s and I want to give myself this gift that no one else can give me. I want to be happy with myself. I just want instant gratification. I want to go in the stores and pick up a size 12 and know it will fit. I know it takes time, but i know each day i get a little closer to that0

9lbs is awesome! I know its hard when you work so hard but the scale just doesn't cooperate.(been there) But if you are working out then you might have gained some muscle. The scale may just be reflecting fat that you have loss. I recommend that you get a scale that also tells you your body fat %. Also yes, us women retain a lot of fluid during our period so don't be discouraged! Don't give it. Next week will be better0

The darn scale can be an enemy at times. We've all been there, when we thought "oh I did good this week" and then BAMM the scale doesn't show it. You want to just throw in the towel and say to heck with it, but don't. It will show later! One pound loss is great and not to mention you've already dropped 9! Anyway it's prolly "Aunt Flow" that's got the weight loss throwed off! So just hang in there and keep up the good work! You've got this!0

Look at it as losing 1lb a hundred times... a loss is a loss and weight loss does slow down as you go along, sometimes you might see 0.5lb then it's time to start weighing in monthly. Keep in it for the long haul, and 1lb is honestly great, imagine a pound of butter... that just came off you!0

Just take it one day at a time. I said the same thing about my 30's because my 20's sucked. I've had my bad weeks and good weeks but you learn to love the process. Each week I can feel my body change and my confidence grow. This week I didn't lose or gain. However, I ran a 5k 3 times this week and I just started doing that 2 weeks ago so I'm sure it's just water retention.
You can do this. Don't focus too much on the number, take measurements, and love yourself.0 -
i dont use a scale , i dont count calories as such, i just eat less and move more, but 9lb is great, i mean i lost lb in 2 weeks when i started but eventually you will be in such a good eatin habit/routine that you wont even realise anymore and the weight will fall off, your doing great keep it up x0

one pound a week is 52 pounds in a year. That is not so shabby. weight loss ebbs and flows just like everything else. Keep up the good work. You are doing great!0

Good for you on your loss this far. I am sure the TOM has a lot to do with the 1 pound loss. that is still wonderful that you lost most of us gain during that time. The scale will probably catch up next week and give you a bigger loss! Good luck0

Don't work for speed with the losses, just keep it consistent with what you are doing. It seems to be working.0

you guys are great. thanks so much for everything. it helps so much0

I was where you are a little bit over a year ago - wondering how I let myself get to this point, and needing to lose just over 100 pounds. Don't let the 1 lb loss this week distort how you are feeling about your loss so far! Yes, it may be less than you lost last week, but it's still a loss! A pound here and another pound there add up to big numbers over time!
Like others have already mentioned, it very well could be that TOM is affecting you this week, or it could just be that is all you lost this past week. You will have weeks where you lose more, and there will even be times when you lose less, or, say it isn't so, gain back a little bit. It happens. This is a journey, and you need to figure out how to enjoy it.
In the first 7 months of my journey, I easily lost 70 pounds. In the next 8 months, I only lost 10, and in the last 2 weeks I've lost 5. However, I have lost inches, even when I wasn't losing pounds. I've made incredible gains in my strength training and am doing things I never would have dreamed of even trying when I first started all of this. I run into people who haven't seen me in a while and they don't recognize me at first. All of these things are successes!
In the beginning, when the numbers are all so big, it seems like you will never get there, and that the scale is all that matters. Trust me, as long as you stick with it, even when your motivation seems to be lagging or your feeling discouraged, you will get there! And, hopefully, along the way you learn that those other successes are just as important, or maybe even more important than the number on the scale.

Okay I'm sure it has to do with your period. When I've lost weight in the past my TOM always wreaks havoc with me losing that week. But i have to say you are doing awesome! The doc always tells me to aim for 1 lb a week. And you're WAY ahead of that! So keep up the good work and be PROUD of yourself! I just started my journey. Today is only my.3rd day and it's also my TOM but YOU are an inspiration for me! I hope i can do as well as you are!0

You have only been at this for 3 weeks. 9 lbs is great! Don't let one week discourage you!!0

You say you're "used to losing a lot of weight very quickly." How many times have you done this, just to have to do it again? The fact that your body is reacting differently this time is good -- it means you're doing something that is different from the thing that hasn't worked in the past.
The first few weeks of a new diet mean squat. It's about how you finish, not about how you start. You could crash diet, take your calories down to nothing and probably lose a little bit more at first. NOBODY sticks with that. Spend some time reading the forums on here and you'll realize that. You'll lose a little more now, then hit a wall and gain it all back (plus more). Or, you could eat a reasonable amount of food that allows for a moderate rate of loss and be able to stick with it for the next year, because that's how long it's going to take for you to lose 100 pounds. Personally, I'd rather take the second option.0 -
I would highly recommend taking photos and measurements along the journey because those are much more reliable than the scale. You've lost 9 pounds in 3 weeks and that's a fantastic loss in a short time so it's natural that your body will start to slow down a little and you'll see smaller losses. I would also suggest cutting down your goals, instead of looking at 100 pounds to lose break it down, you've already lost almost 10% of that so when you hit that 10% loss of 10 pounds, go for another 10% which will be 9 pounds and keep on going before you know it you'll be shocked by your own image.0

Something seems to be wrong with the math in the OP. You say you started Jan. 2 and posted Jan. 23 -- that's 21 days, or three weeks. You've lost 9 lbs, so that's an average of 3 lbs a week. You say you lost 1 lb this week, and it was your "best week" -- am I misunderstanding that to mean your biggest-loss week? Because the math for an avg of 3 lbs a week with 1 lb being the highest just doesn't work.0

I think she means it was her "best week" in terms of sticking to the plan, maybe?

That's what I mean. I ate the best and worked out the hardest. First week was 3lbs 2end week was 5 and this week was 1. Total of 90
