strength training and cardio

I have started doing different strength training w/ a 5 lb weight and doing some star step exercises 5 days a week...Is this going to be enough to start to help my weight loss/toning goals? Do I need to increase my cardio more than 10-20 min 4-5 days a week?

    My dr. always said 45mins 4-5 days a week. Build up to that. Mix up your routine too.
