Ugh, fitbit confusion

An hour ago it told me I had 800 calories left.

Myfitnesspal says I have 600 calories left

Now all of a sudden I went to having 2 calories left on fitbit and I haven't even logged anything!

I'm really about to stop tracking on there because it does it a lot. Sometimes it jumps and makes me negative but the next day I'll wake up and look and have 300 left.

Does anyone else with a fitbit notice this?

FitBit assumes you'll keep going at the same rate you are currently for the rest of the evening. So if you don't go to bed or sit down on the couch before midnight you wouldn't have this issue. :\ But in reality if you're like most people you relax or go to bed and then it starts taking away those calories it predicted you'd earn.

Well it's confusing. Lol it also takes away calories on here too. So now idk if I want to risk a small sundae or not. I accidently went over yesterday because the stupid thing reduced me after I already had a snack, and because it takes away from mfp I was over on here too.

I'm about to stop logging on there and remove the sync to here simply due to how confused I get from it.

Pick one place to log, either fitbit or mfp, I just log on mfp and have no problems

I do, but it takes away from calories allowed to eat here too.

The only reason I open fitbit is to synch.
  • I only log here. Fitbit syncs my steps and sends my steps here and mfp syncs my food, water, and exercise there.

If your activity level on Fitbit is set to Sedentary instead of Personalized, it may subtract calories later in the day because it expected a certain level of activity. I've found when set to Personalized it may start out in the negative numbers in the morning if I sleep in or am not active, but when it starts adding calories it never removes them. Also, be sure you have "allow negative calorie adjustment" set in MFP.

I only log food on MFP. I let Fitbit adjust activity from movement and the only time I manually make entries regarding exercise is when I enter the times I drive school bus, because Fitbit gives me extra calories due to the bouncing bus seat.

How often do you sync throughout the day - and how active have you told MFP you are?

If you only sync on the evening and you've been less active than MFP expects throughout the day then you'll see a drop.

I have the fitbit app on my phone - I try to remember to sync a few times - usually at lunch time and any periods of activity. I also have both fitbit and MFP set to sedentary even though I'm not. This means I only see calories being added - unless I'm ill and don't get out of bed - because both say I've been more active than they expected.

I sync after a workout because I only log exercise on mfp and them before bed. But then I noticed calories disappearing on mfp so I started to sync a few times in between workouts and bed.

Is there a way to make it stop taking calories from mfp?

If you have negative calorie adjustments enabled you can disable that in your settings - but I wouldn't recommend that - it can easily lead to over eating.

I think it's more likely to be an activity level issue - how active did you tell MFP you are when you set up your goal?

lightly active because I run 5 miles 4 days a week. I have lost 41lbs but then this fitbit I got for Christmas has done messed me all up.

On the running days are you getting the extra calories for them?
