Hello! Im a 35 year old woman and I had the gastric sleeve done Dec 22nd 2014. The surgery went well. I have a high pain tolerance so I didn't really feel pain after. I think I pressed the morphine button twice. I felt no hunger, actually I have yet to feel hunger. I'm still on stage 3 food wise. So still no solid for me. My next doc appointment is Feb 12th. I think the worst side affect I've felt was being really gassy. I know that it's different for everyone and I was feeling the same as you being for. Excited but nervous. I have no regrets so far.0

Check out the groups for discussions of various stomach surgeries, their after-effects, etc.
In general, the message boards do not look kindly on such things.
If you can manage the "low-cal diet" while you're waiting for surgery, you can manage to eat less & move more without surgery, without permanently changing your body & food absorption.
Note the graph on the first page here, discussing weight loss after surgery:
http://www.froedtert.com/upload/docs/quality/bariatric-quality-data.pdf
I've done better than even the best (highest percent weight loss) on that graph, and I'm still whole, still able to eat whatever I want, still absorbing all the nutrition from my foods.
You can do it too.
You may not do it as quickly, but that's OK. As long as you're getting better.
This lady (one of my MFP friends) at nearly 70 years old has lost 124 lb.

"If you are just beginning your journey, know this... it can be done. If I can do it, so can you. Remember, I will be 70 years old in February; and I spent most of my life FAT. Today, I am happier and healthier than I have been in more than 50 years."
Info & resources:
http://www.froedtert.com/bariatric-surgery/gastrectomy
"During the procedure, the surgeon creates a small, sleeve-shaped stomach which is 15 percent of its original size"

Check out the chart here. Gastric sleeve is on the far right of the table.

The side effects that aren't discussed...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/09/weight-loss-surgery-side-effects-al-roker_n_2441223.html
"About 20 percent of people who opt for weight-loss surgery require further procedures for complications, WebMD reported, and as many as 30 percent deal with complications relating to malnutrition, like anemia or osteoporosis, since the intestines are absorbing fewer nutrients... patients are also at risk for dehydration... as many as 20 percent of people will gain a significant amount of weight back"

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20622654
"Conclusions: In this long-term report of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, it appears that after 6+ years the mean excess weight loss exceeds 50%. However, weight regain and de novo gastroesophageal reflux symptoms appear between the third and the sixth postoperative year."
This site bothers me, but they have some useful info so I'll include it.

Im glad things are going well. We're close in age so hopefully my experience will be as positive as yours. Good luck for the coming weeks
