I am female, 63 years old, 5'8" tall and currently weigh in at 250 lbs. In 1995, I weighed 140-150. I was thin and I was kinda cute. What happened? A LOT! Life sometimes deals you dirty, rotten tricks and I didn't deal with it very well. I have blamed everyone around except myself for my loss of control. I hate the way I look and so does my husband, who, by the way, is trim and toned and supportive. UGH! The first thing I think of every morning when I awaken and the last thing I think of at night before I go to sleep is my weight. I don't want to go to class reunions or even see anyone who knew me back when. I am so ashamed of myself.

OK, that was 4 days ago and now I have decided to take control of my life again. I need help. Like I said, my husband is supportive and will do whatever he can to make this endeavor profitable. My daughter, Kathy, is the one who told me about this website. She is doing this with me although she is cute and doesn't have so much to loose. We both want to be healthy and comfortable in our clothes. When I awaken now, I am thinking that I am one day closer to a healthier, smaller me.

I could use some friends. If you could too, please send a request. I AM going to do this.

Jan I am 63 yo guy that was 250 last year and have worked down to 215. Did the first 20 pound loss the old way and when truly low low carb high fat Oct 2014 and have lost another 15 pounds and a ton of aches and pains.

Most any diet works at some level for at least a short while so I quit dieting. Having ditched most all sources of carbs I am for the first time in many years am starting to see real health gains.

It was the need to start taking cancer causing injections for pain management plus my age that woke me up to trying to prevent greater loss of my health and moving to a new eating lifestyle.

Best of luck because time does run out on saving our health. Sounds like you have a great husband and daughter supporting you yet in the end it is going to be 100% left up to you to go for better health.

I am 55 and I know how you feel. Before MFP I lost 20 pounds and have been pretty good at keeping it off. I have about 15 more pounds to lose. I noticed that for me when I lower my simple carbs and sugar I lose weight. My problem is I love simple carbs and sugar. :) Also working out helps. I started a virtual walking group which is motivating me to walk more. I sent you a friend request and a group invite incase you are interested in joining the group.
