Hello everyone My MFP name is Papatoad, it’s on my introduction. If you want to know why. I have been a lot of things, Soldier, Cook, Technician and Medic. I have raised four children to adulthood. I am a corporate systems trainer and encourager my nature. I tend to travel all North America, so I could be in a gym or Y near you! I figured I would start a blog with my ongoing progress, to keep myself honest and encourage others.
In this last year I shot up to 301.5lbs. It’s the first time I have cared about my weight in an important way. On Christmas 2014 I scaled in at whooping 301.5lbs. I could not even be angry. Months of jelly bellies, fast food, double and triple cheeseburgers and triple chocolate cheese cake and venti triple mocha's with the whip creme, had been steadily adding to my weight. I knew I needed to change. Sugar and unhealthy food was my crack.
In the last two years I have quit smoking, video gaming, overeating and drinking. This was just another lifestyle change for me to make. Eat less, work out more. This and not hating that Bast*rd in the mirror.
My goals are simple. I want to become more flexible and to be more fit. This entails being able to touch my toes and a tie my shoes comfortably. To train a full session of Aikido and not have to stop because I am so tied. To be able to duck walk, knee to toe in Aikido comfortably. Right now I may have to take 2-3 breaks in an hour and ½ practice session. I want to be able to run a 5 k anywhere, anytime. TO do a PX90 at temp or an aerobics class at the Y and stay in sync. I also want to look good. Damn good.
I will accomplish these goals. I want to look good and not be ashamed of my body as I have been these last few years. It’s been about a decade where I have been over 250. I got down to for a time. But the I then I gained it back. With Interest. I have joined the YMCA. I tried returning to Aikido twice a week. My weight and the class runs too late.I could live with it if there was an Aikido class that meet say 6-730pm interested of 730pm till 9pm. I get up at five am. Though I did walked my first 5K in 50 minutes. (FYI if anyone living on the coast has a decent Aikido dojo that has humanitarian hours, let me know please!)
I have increase my caloric intake from 1800 to 2000. Using the Scooby index in the link below. I figured the caloric intake for my goal weight. (I want to get down to 194) To stay at this weight, keep fit and gain muscle, I need a total of 2700 calories. with the workouts I am building to. In another six weeks or so I will add another 300 if needed. And so on, until I am at my chosen fighting weight.
I am losing weight steadily. I do not want to lose too fast. I plan on owning and living on a boat in the future and would like to take off my shirt and not have it look like I have added a third sail. That is preferable to being fat. I think I can accomplish both. I'm a bright boy. This is why I concentrate on yoga and biking. I plan to have a retractable treadmill and exercise bike built into my boat. I can even have it power a toaster because hot meals are good. Being able to work out in the middle of the pacific or any of the seven seas, is a good thing. Beside who wouldn't want to run a catamaran up upon some tropical beach and greet the sun in a yoga practice? Keep your constitutional at sunset. I will greet it in the morning.
As can be seen in my logs. I lift about five times a week when I can. Nothing super macho just my core. I am not a young buck chasing skirts and focusing on a my biceps. I want full core strength. Squat machine, bench and rear row. About three sets of thirteen to fifteen reps. I do Yoga daily. DDP Yoga and regular Yoga when I am able. (Fun Fact, I prefer regular yoga) I bike for five miles, five to six times a week. I will gradually increase my Yoga and biking time. I will be adding some aerobics in there as well.
I figure I should be at fighting weight in about spring of next year. I know it’s a journey. I take as such. I do wish to thank everyone who has added me and to the community with their personal success and stories, even when we see you struggling, it inspires me, and I am sure the rest of us. Thanks for following long with me. I will do my best to keep it interesting.
Thank you so much for your time.
