Hello all -

I am looking to do some cross country skiing as a way to get out and excercise more in the winter. I have snow shoes but looking into skis as well. Not sure what to look for and looking to learn what I can about starting equipment.

It's been a long time since I did any actual cross country skiing. Now, it's all on my Nordic Track in the basement. However, I think I would recommend waxless skis to start. I had the waxable kind and I enjoyed using them, but they were a bit of a pain because you had to check the temperatures to make sure you were applying the right wax. With waxless, you could just put them on and go. Other than that, recommend you go to a ski shop and talk to a technician. They'll discuss your height & weight and what style of cross country skiing you'll be doing. These factors will impact the length, width and springiness of your skiis, much like with downhill.

Thank you Hermann.... I have been to a few shops and it seems like cross country skiis are an after thought and finding anyone with real knowledge is hard.....at least in my very local area. The focus seems to be on downhill. OR, I could just be overthinking it.
