Elliptical--RPMs

What is your average RPMs (speed) when you work out on the elliptical? I try to manage 40 RPMs which is hard for me to sustain. I read an article that said for the work out to be effective you should maintain around 90. Really? 90?? At 40 RPMs I am sweating, my heart is pounding and my legs are aching. There is no way I can ever do 90.

I am at around 60. I just started using the elliptical about a month ago. I can sustain there and I am also drenched by the time I get about 5 minutes into the work out.
