Exercising twice in one day

No I am not trying to over exercise or anything. I know it's unhealthy to exercise too much. But what if I do a cardio session and later on weight training in the same day. That is 2 exercises in the same day, although they are different forms of exercise. Is this a healthy thing to do?
I find that sometimes when I miss say 2 days of exercise in a week, I will try to make up for it by throwing a weight training session and a cardio session into one day so it all balances out. What do ya think?

That's perfectly fine. I exercise twice a day regularly (about 3-5 times a week). I plan it that way. I just make sure that I take a dedicated rest day.0

I think it's fine. I do a Zumba class on Tuesday's at noon and then I go do a weight class the same evening.0

Well, on my weight training days, I generally always walk for half an hour earlier in the day. If I haven't been able to walk during the day, I do it after the weight training. I think it's okay as long as you don't do more than 20 or 30 minutes.0

I don't think the length of time will affect anything, but everyone is different. I do 30-35 minutes of intense cardio in the morning, and in the evening I'll either do 60 minutes of spin, 60 minutes of yoga, or 2 hours of pole class (depending on the day of the week).
I've been working out 2x a day regularly since July 2014.
I think the important part is making sure you have a rest day/active rest day somewhere in that week.0 -
I agree, just make sure you are taking rest days when needed. Sometimes I do an hour bootcamp class in the morning and then a boxing class after work. If you feel up to it then do it. Listen to your body, it will usually tell you when its time for a rest.0

i love two a days0

Yes, there's nothing wrong in theory with doubling up. The main thing is to listen to your body. What works for one person may not for another. People tend to recover differently. It also depends on what type of exercise you're doing and the intensity. If you're going to double up make sure you're fueling your body adequately, getting plenty of good quality sleep and hydrating well. Take rest days when needed but at least one a week seems to be a good starting point.0

It depends...your overall fitness level is relevant here...as is your ability to properly fuel that activity.
I have two-a-days pretty much 3x weekly and singles 3x weekly, but I most definitely worked up to that level of fitness and I most definitely eat to support that kind of activity and level of effort and enjoy my rest day.0 -
Daily doubles!
I do that all of the time...though generally I have one more intense session and another lighter exercise.
As long as you are not tired, sore or setting yourself up for injury, go for it!0 -
When I used to go to the gym I would do a bit of cardio, then weights with the trainer, then back to cardio - I see it as basically the same thing only with a long break in between.0

When I was training heavily I would ride my bike 20 miles in the morning, lift for an hour and a half after work and then run 5 miles at night. It worked great for about 5 years until I got married and my wife wanted a little time also.0

I've been doubling up too. I've been doing the Couch to 5k in the morning and the 30 Day Shred in the evening. They work out different muscle groups for me most of the time and I feel great. Key is to listen to your body for sure.0

I try to commute by bike -- about 9 miles/prox 40 minutes each way. Then, during the day, I'll also try either elliptical/weight training or a spin class. So, many days I'll get three bits of exercise, or as much as 2-1/2 hours. I don't specifically take a rest day, but there's usually one that "happens" every 7 - 10 days. But I've been doing this for a long time.0

Nothing wrong with it at all. I workout 2x a day 3 days a week. Only way I can fit in everything. T/TH, swim in the morning, weights in the evening. Sun, cycling in the morning, weights and swim in the evening. I also walk the dog several miles every day. And when I have a tennis match, that's another 2x.0

Agree with this. I don't double up unless I have to take an extra rest day because of scheduling or I have to split a training session in two. But I do most definitely fuel my activity level and enjoy my rest day

I do weights in the morning and walk a couple miles at night about 5x a week...no issues.0

As long as you're eating to support your activity level, taking rest days as appropriate, and feeling okay I think it's fine. But make sure you're getting enough calories and enough rest. Monitor your progress and how you feel. Watch for signs of overtraining.0

I regularly do a Body Pump (light weight lots of reps) class for an hour and follow it straight up with a Body Jam (fitness dance / cardio usually average about 150 on the HRM). My legs usually feel like jelly but other than that I have no issues.0
-
I regularly do two classes - usually a strength or full body work out and then a cardio (or the other way around). It feels so good when it's over. ;-)
Actually, I love that I've made it through feeling.0 -
Yes do it. More exercise....
