Haha, I haven't seen pizza ads, just a lot for laundry detergent and fabric softener. They must know I'm doing laundry today!

I have seen pizza ads. It sorta set me back on my heels, too. Talk about a trigger food for me! Oh, well..... I consider it practice in resisting temptation.

Ads are based on your individual internet history. Either through searches or facebook pages, websites, etc... If you are seeing Dominoes ads... it's because you either ordered, searched for pizza, or something similar in the recent past. lol

Then why do I get the joys of listening to ads for Oreos? I don't search for those especially since I don't like them. I do agree it's more likely you will get an ad based on search history, but I think other things are in play here.

The person who said the ads were based on what you have searched for in the past is correct.

I often have shoes and boots ads and also hotels and holiday destinations.

I haven't had any pizza ads though.

I have Adblock. It's free and it blocks ads. I read about it on an IT blog. Google it and download it for free. The developer wants users to pay for it, but you don't have to. Apparently it works because I didn't know that MFP has ads. Software also blocks most ads on FB. Glad to learn that I'm missing ads for pizza.

There are a multitude of reasons for certain ads appearing. MFP, in all likelihood, has nothing to do with it.

That's so funny. A few days ago, I posted the same thing:

"I was just glancing thru some of the recent posts, and each time I would go to a new post, a giant Dominoes Pizza ad would pop up on the right side of the screen. It was so huge, and so obviously calling my name. Lots of pics of pizzas and sandwiches and garlic bread, and great deals and coupons, and they even deliver. I can even order on line, wouldn't even have to get up from my desk.

Is it just me, or is that a terrible way to sabotage someone's day, by advertising pizza and garlic bread (with extra cheese ), on a weight-loss/fitness site??!!

And, for those of you out there that want to preach to me, I know, I know, I should have enough will power not to order a pizza, which I do. I have no intention of calling them, but not everyone may be in that place today . . . just a thought . . . what do you guys think??? Just curious - obviously this is not critical in the big picture, but it's now 10:00 pm in So California and that has been the only advertisement I have seen all day, each time I signed on to the site . . ."

I got several replies - most basically agreeing with me, and those that said it came up because I had searched for pizza, which my daughter had, but I know not all the ads are related to our searches. I still think MFP should consider not soliciting from companies that may offer a temptation to some of us. I know that there have been days that if I saw a pizza, I might click over and order one right on the spot. I was also reminded that we are on here for free - BUT still, if I owned a site that was being used for health purposes, I would try not to advertise anything against what the site is being used for. Just my opinion . . .

Speaking of...as I was leaving the gym this morning, a little boy ran up to me and tried to sell me a box of Krispy Kreme donuts that he was selling as a fundraiser for his church! I mean, I was in the gym parking lot! I was like, "Seriously dude, I'm just leaving the gym and you are trying to sell me donuts?" I was trying to be playful while saying no, but I think he took it the wrong way and thought I was being a *kitten*. :/

I am getting adds for things that are irrelevant to me and my life! Diapers! I have nor want NO baby! Also cheap nasty dog food when I make food for my dogs! And Malibu rum too! I would never drink that...there are definitely other things at play!!!! Also Dominoes and I am vegan :)
I have never searched for any of these things!

That is terrible! There are much more delicious pizzas you could be eating. I recommend Gino's East - the stuffed pizza. They do a nice salad too.

I saw an ad for getting an Indian bride...personally I am not in the market so not sure why I was targeted lol.

It is related to your search, but also related to things that are related. For example, if you've searched for dog food recipes, you would not only get dog food recipes, but also dog food and dog health. If you've searched for something like 'low calorie pizza' or 'how many calories in pizza' or 'vegan pizza' or anything related to a pizza company, you'd get pizza ads. Google Adwords campaigns, combined with bots, are very sneaky about figuring out not only what you do like, but what you might like based on search histories.

(I'm actually something of an expert in how Search engine optimization, Google ads, and things like that work; I do it for a living :))

I've gotten used to it; my job is researching all manner of things which means I get a huge spread of ads XD. You can really throw Google off your trail by searching for whacky things and seeing what pops up.

For myself, I always get the zulily ads for clothing that would now-I'm happy to say-probably be too big for me on this site, lol! Although some of it is awfully pretty :D

Use an ad blocker and you won't have to deal with them. I have one on Mozilla, it's an add-on.

It is possible it is just Google crawling the web and Dominos, Pizza Hut, etc setting advertisements to be shown on websites where the word pizza is mentioned in a forum. Someone could have typed "I hate Pizza" and it may trigger a flurry of ads.

Bread, meat, cheese, tomato sauce, vegetables. By themselves not many people would consider them to be bad. Why do they suddenly become evil when you combine them?

I've had pizza at least once a week every week since I joined here 2.5 years ago. Lost weight the first six months, been on maintenance the last two years.

    Nothing wrong with pizza.

Without the ads whose going to pay the bills. Life is not fair, its called having discipline. I have Haagen Dazs ice cream in my freezer for nearly three months, I have only eaten three times.. At the end of the day, the onus is on the individual, because wherever ones goes there will be some kind of vice to tempt you.

This is a really common topic. Every post goes the same way.

"I CANNOT BELIEVE MFP WOULD SABOTAGE WEIGHT LOSS BY ALLOWING ADS FROM (McDonald's, KFP, Domino's, etc).

Of course, I am strong enough to resist it, but other people, those poor other people who are not me, they might not be."

    Seems legit.
