Effectiveness of walking over time

Quick question for someone in the know. In addition to the various other exercises I have a treadmill desk and walk while I work (3-4 hrs a day). My question is the treadmill (and RunKeeper) tell me I have burned 500 calories (lets say for example). I have been at this for months so wouldn't the amount of calories I burn for a given time/distance diminish as my muscles got stronger or do I burn the same rough number of calories regardless of my muscle shape (assuming my weight hasnt changed)? Thanks in advance!

I would think that as strength develops the distance per time (miles per hour) would increase so the calorie burning would remain constant or increase.0
