SMALL goals, win the race!!

So thats me now 3 days into my marathon training, and I am starting to realise just how much running helps you think!! Work is pretty stressful just now, but being out 'pounding the pavements' has helped me relax and breath a little.

Tonight, whilst running, I starting thinking about how creating SMALL goals will eventually tally up and sum together, allowing me to achieve exactly what I want. I am learning that it is vital to create SMALL milestones on your journey as this will provide you with a great deal of motivation and joy on a daily basis! By setting out each morning, with a couple of SMALL daily targets in your head, then I fully believe that by hitting these targets each day, the end result will be on us in no time! It will allow us to remain focused on the 'prize' and enable us to stay concentrated when we are in situations that can lead us wildly astray....

I am most definitely not here to preach, but hey, I think this is a basic way on remaining in the race and closer to our DREAM goals!!

Quick example before I wrap this up... I stated in my initial blog post yesterday that my end goal is to carry out 10 unassisted pullups... well tonight I entered the gym to do a 30minute stretch/floor excercises and just as I was leaving I set myself the target of doing 5 assisted pullups. At that exact moment, I really couldn't care less about the 'dream 10', all I wanted to do was do 5 assisted pull-ups in a row.... lets call this a SMALL goal.

Now I am sitting here typing this with a grin on my face! I know, that yeah I didn't do 10 unassisted ones, but I hit a daily goal and have motivated myself to re-enter that gym in a couple of days time and try for 6...maybe 7

Anyway, please let me know your thoughts on this....I would love to hear these SMALL goals...cause you never know, these goals could be the one that wins you the race!!!

Cheers,
GJ

P.S I believe the word SMALL should always get written in upper case, because its the SMALL things in life that have the biggest impact!

I am all about the SMALL goals. The big, long term goals are just so overwhelming and they feel like they will never happen - whereas SMALL goals are so much more attainable and motivating. This week's SMALL goal: Don't binge on birthday cake this weekend.
