Weighing Meat Raw

I did not know until reading the Calorie Counting 101 sticky at the top that you are supposed to be using the raw weight of meat. I really thought it was the cooked weight! So I'm very thankful for that thread. Who knows how long I would have gone on? It really makes a difference with something like red meat.

Depends on which database entry you use.
If you weigh it cooked, use the calories for cooked. If you weigh it raw, use the calories for raw.
Meat loses some water weight when it cooks, so cooked meat is more calorie-dense than raw meat. If you're weighing it cooked and using the calorie count for raw, you're underestimating your calories a bit.0 -
The entries that I've been using haven't indicated cooked or raw. I assumed it was always cooked. I'll do some more checking on the different database entries. Thanks!0
