Hi my name is Beka, I have been working out for about a month now but I am new here, my husband just left this past Sunday for basic in the army. He was my workout buddy but thankfully I have my sister now to workout with. Me and myth husband have been married for 7 years coming up here in March and we have two girls a 5 yr old and a 2 yr old, it's been a rough week so far but it's getting better, so I thought I join my fitness pal to help me along the way. I have about 50lbs to lose but my goal is to just get healthy and fit and not to put a number on it, i actually only need to lose about 40 to be in the Normal range for weight and height. So if anybody who is a military spouse also or a mother please add me I would love the support and I am also here to support others.

I am not military but thank you both for your husbands service and for you, for your part too. It has to be hard when they are away. Feel free to add me as a friend.

Also a military spouse. :) When my husband left for Basic (18 years ago!!!) it was a great opportunity for me to get fit. We had a 2 year old at home and between taking care of our son, working and being involved in church - I was able to get in shape much easier. Fast forward 18 years and the pounds don't come off as easy as they used to! BUT...we can do it!

I have all my husband's letters from Basic Training - what a treasure they are to read now. You can do this! Be strong for your husband, be strong for your kiddos, and most importantly, be STRONG for yourself! The life of a military spouse is mainly what you make of it. The best duty assignment is usually the next one you are going to (until you get there - and then it's the one you just left!). After you have a few duty stations behind you, you'll find the truth in that much easier. :) Congratulations on joining a wonderful sisterhood of women! I wouldn't trade the past 18 years for anything. Best of luck!

Once your husband and you arrive at his first duty station. If it is a medium to larger base they'll have an immense network to help you with all of your goals. For instance at my last duty station they had a bodpod to fairly accurately measure your body fat. That was cool, and I had a gate analysis done for running. Video taped me on a treadmill walking, jogging, running and then analyzed it to see what I needed to do for optimal running (shorten my stride, chest out, head up, arms swinging straighter, etc). Not to mention a registered dietician there as well. Would love that kind of support now, but know that there will be a ton of resources at your disposal. Take particular interest in the gym on most bases as it will rival the best comerical ones out in towm.

I will say this, depending on your husbands military job he might not be a workout partner for very long. He will often do physical training as part of his work day.

Welcome to the military family and good luck!

Thank you for the advice, I know I probably won't be working out with my husband anymore but I will defiantly be going to the gym and hopefully I can meet some people that I can go with, because this is something I want to stick with for the rest of my life.
