I've been reading tons of articles that say that doing the same exercise everyday is bad and will make your weight plateau. If i'm burning calories no matter what doing the same thing everyday how is this true? Why won't I lose weight unless i change up my exercise every few days?

At a certain point during your weight loss, you will have to either cut down the number of calories that you take in or up the calories you burn in order to continue losing weight. That's because the smaller you get, the fewer calories your body needs in order to maintain status quo. So I guess, if we ignore how your change in weight affects how many calories you burn doing X exercise at Y intensity for Z period of time changes the number of calories it burns, doing the same exercise every single day without making any other changes will result in a plateau. But life doesn't happen in a vacuum--there are more factors to consider when it comes to weight loss than just exercise.

If you're at a calorie deficit, you will lose weight.
If you're at a calorie surplus, you will gain weight.
The type of exercise you're doing doesn't matter. Just the number of calories burned.
