Secrets are easy, work is hard, sentence structure and punctuation is harder

Sorry OP, I couldn't understand what you were saying.

You really need punctuation in your wall of text.

So people stop complaining ;-) and more easily read the post!

Also, OP please note: Their is not the same thing as "there" - that was really bugging me!

Okay, I just have to say something. I've lost 40 pounds (yay!) and I did that by counting my calories and eating right, and by exercising.

I'm so sick of hearing the people like "I'm going on HCG" and "I'm doing this" and that it's "all about calories in calories out ". It really is that people go on Body by Via or Atkins, or some fad diet, because its not going as fast as they want. It will never work in the long run - ever.

I'm so glad I figured that out. Your body has to burn something. If you don't have excess calories in, then it has to move into your fat stores - that's just the way it is. Counting calories will work for you. Every single time people make weight loss harder than it has to be - way harder. There is no magic shake or pill. Oh just drink protein shakes, nothing else. No it doesn't work like that.

It took me a good 7 months to lose that 40 lbs and it's the most I've ever lost in my life because I stuck to it, and I continue to make counting calories apart of my life and lifestyle. THERE IS NO BIG SECRET. That's it. It is proven - that's science and don't argue with science. It's a bad idea, really bad.

I also don't believe in starvation mode when your huge like me, but if you want to worry about it you go ahead. So yes that's how I lost my 40 pounds. What do you guys think on this? WHY DO PEOPLE THINK ITS A HUGE SECRET!

    eat less. move more.

^ this - exactly what I tell people.
Friend: "You look great, what are you doing?"
Me: "I'm on the 'eat less, move more' program."

I have a co-worker who tried GHC (or whatever it is) - she said she lost 14 lbs, but I honestly couldn't see a difference (and she's a thin person to begin with so that would be obvious). She was also constantly going over her 500 calorie limit and had to exercise it off. She told me I should try it - well, unless you want me to be an absolute shrieking witch to everyone who crosses my path, you do NOT want me eating 500 calories a day.

I have another co-worker who has been on a "low carb" diet for a few months now - lost 4 lbs - why? Because she can't stick to it - she'll do it for a few days, then go to Burger King for lunch.

Yet another said her doctor told her that it didn't matter what you do unless you cut out carbs and sugar you won't lose weight. So she's been trying, but again, she finds it hard to do that and hasn't lost. I found her doctor's advice really funny because I regularly eat carbs and sugar and I've lost 32 lbs since December...but if you eat carbs and sugar, you won't lose any weight. ;)

Diets and depriving yourself simply don't work. Eat less; move more - the weight will come off.

I'm not going to go into way the OP wrote her message but will go on content alone.

It's true. I run into quite a few glazed over eyeballs when I tell others how I lost the weight. Slow and Steady this time around. Measure and weigh foods. Exercise. Eating cleaner. Making better choices and no more fast/junk food.

No more Fad Diets for this gal.

I was asked to speak in a group some time ago. They were amazed but looked oddly disappointed because I had no "big secret' for instant weight loss. It took me 4 years of trial and error to get to where I am now. Happy to say in maintenance for 2 years now.

Sometimes I am so tempted to say I had my jaw wired shut for 6 months and that's how I lost it all.

    Just breathe.

ETA: I think people are disappointed when I tell them what I do. I've been told on more than one occasion that counting calories is too restrictive. When they're ready they'll figure it out.

That's my mum's (defiant) line: 'I'm not going to restrict myself!'

As if calorie counting was somehow worse than following any other diet...

I think, as well, that some people really want to be told exactly what to do, with rules etc. That's not me, so mfp and calorie counting suit me best.

Yeah, I love this one. Food journaling is too restrictive, but eliminating carbs, or grains, or living on pregnant lady pee and 500 calories a day isn't.

I eat whatever I want, and just stay within my daily allotment. Journaling takes me about 5 minutes a day, tops. Wow, how inconvenient. (Insert eye roll.)

It's funny you say that because my in-laws, who are always saying calorie counting is too restrictive, do the HCG diet over and over again.

People think it's a big secret because shedding the pounds takes a decent amount of work. Gotta be a faster way...right?
