I suffer with some eating problems but i really want to boost my calorie intake
It has been around 1200-1300 with exercise but i want to go to 1700 a day now mfp recommendation for maintenance at sedentary

Im 5 foot 10 inches
57kg
22 years old

I do exercise daily about 30 mins walking, 20 mins on exercise bike
I also go to the gym once a week
I also work 40 hours a week in a hospital and im on my feet alot

I dont want people lecturing me, i know i need to eat more but as a start would 1700 be a good goal for me on a daily basis? or should i zig zag my calories?

Any help would be good, thankyou

Don't zig zag. You don't want to be focusing on fancy eating rules. Just figure out what you're supposed to eat and do it. It should be as close to natural as is healthy.

That's not far off from where I am in terms of calories. I'm also 5'10". I have never had an eating problem but I am much older than you, so currently need fewer calories. At your age I only weighed a little more than that and was healthy. It sounds like you're moving in a good direction as long as you're measuring accurately and really are eating what you hope to be eating. As you get more comfortable you can increase.

    BUT . . .

If you want to more accurate, you can get a fitbit or other tool to measure your steps and it will sync with MFP. Set yourself to sedentary and it will add in all the steps you have at work and from walking and you can log that time on the exercise bike. That will again tell you what you should be eating each day to maintain or to gain.

It is very important to look not just at every day's goals, but also making sure you hit every WEEK's goals. This is important for those of us who want to maintain, but even more important for those who want to gain.

Good luck. Keep swimming in the right direction.

Hey - I am still losing weight on 1700 cals/ day. Please do it for yourself. Awesome work on upping the cals and being motivated. Take care of that body of yours.

I would up to 1700 and go off that for maybe 3 weeks. If your weight starts to drop further, I'd add a couple hundred more per day. Test that for a couple weeks. Just feel it out and don't give up.

you're going to gain some water weight. Hold off on weighing for at least a few weeks, and then monitor after that for another few weeks. I'd bet that 1700 NET would be fine for maintaining. But with all that exercise youi'd better be logging it in and eating the calories back, otherwise it will affect your CICO ratio.

You want to add calories in slowly. Check out this video. Reverse dieting really works. I've been doing this since July and have raised my maintenance calorie level from 2000 cal/day to 3200 cal/day

I'm curious. Why would you 'go off that'? If that's what she should eat to maintain - and I note what she should NET - why drop back? I don't understand the logic.

Find a good number. Eat. It's hard enough to do that.

Don't worry you are not alone. I am 5ft 2in, 110 lbs. I have been trying to eat at 1600 cal exercising 3 to 4 times a week. I plan to up my calories about 100 each month. I've only been in my first 2 weeks of 1600. So around 3rd week of Feb I will up to 1700. Normal person should be in taking about 2000 cal? Pls correct me if I'm wrong.

You're fairly small. If you want to know what you should be eating why don't you plug your numbers into MFP and it will give you an estimate. Put your activity in at lightly active and log your exercise. That will give you a baseline. "Normal" people are taller than you. :)

She said she wanted to up to 1700, so I said try that out for a few weeks. If she's still losing/ not feeling well to go up another couple hundred calories. Not sure what you didn't understand from my post.
