ouch sounds painful but how about some planks, press ups, sit ups and variations of those to make a circuit?0

I know Shaun T's 'T25' workout series has a low impact modifier for people with bad joints/back issues etc (Tania does the workout with minimal jumping around to reduce stress on the joints).
Also, cross trainers are good at reducing knee impact whilst you're moving on them, rowing machines (I'm assuming it is the impact/jolting that comes with working out that causes your knee pain).
I'd also recommend going and seeing a doctor just to verify all of this, they're usually able to recommend things specifically to your medical history and physical issues
Hope this helps!0 -

The correct shoes with the right support. My orthopedist recommended New Balance - they have different models for different solutions. (Cross trainers for classes, running shoes for running, tennis shoes for tennis, etc.)
Some people in my ballet class (at the gym - not professionals) wear knee braces. And in my my workout classes, people are wearing knee supports.
Don't hyperextend your knees when working out, keep you knees soft. Switch from high to low impact workouts.0 -
If your doctor isn't a physiotherapist I'd take with several grains of salt his advice on working out.
What do you mean by your knees pop out? Do you get dislocations, funny noises, or something else?0 -

my consultant is a knee doctor whatever that is called, he was the one that gave me the list, he is a sports injury expert as well so I think he knows his stuff.
my knees hyper extend and I used to run distance for my school and county I have stretched the ligaments in my knees and hip and this means that they fall out of the joint, pop and click a lot and dislocate, some days im fine and others I cant move.... hence the problem
I love working out and I had always been an active teenager I just miss the activity.0 -
Sweet, sounds like you have the right doctor. I would suggest asking about barbell squats - starting light, of course - to build the soft tissue strength as well as muscle mass.
Usual disclaimer, IANAD.0 -
If he gave you the list of 'no's he should also be well versed in a list of 'yes's. You can probably call his office and get a prepared list without even making an appointment.
I personally find that walking on an incline takes a lot of pressure off of my knees. A treadmill incline of 5 seems to be the perfect balance for me. Harder to replicate on real roads of course.0 -

When I'm limited on time (work 16 hours a day/ 6 days a week), or my knees are bad (arthritis), I just get out my weighted hula hoop, play some upbeat music, and go at it. Don't lock your knees while hooping, keep a slight bend. My hoop is 5lbs and it helped shed weight really quickly with practically no effort.0
