I need a new HRM. I wanted to try one of the new no-strap kinds, but they don't seem like they're worth the money. I'm back to looking at strap kinds. I want something around $150, do you have any suggestions?

-I used to use a basic Polar FT4 but I want something that I can sync to my phone or computer
-also one that I could use as a full-day calorie tracker. Considering the Loop but I'm not sure if it's worth it!
-having a visual (as in, a screen) to check my HR mid-workout is probably the #1 most important thing.

Thoughts? Thanks friends.

Do you want an HRM for workouts, or an activity tracker for daily monitoring? They are different, and most are geared towards one or other. If you want both in a single device, your options are pretty limited.

I use the Mio Alpha, which was $200, but is now $150 (I think). It Bluetooths to app(s) on your smart phone (I use Digifit), that is how the HR data is utilized / stored. It is like a wristwatch, so you can look at it while you are working out, and your fitness app that you pair it with will also display it.

I have found it reliable, it always correlates accurately with independent HRs on ellipticals and treadmills. It holds a charge for a long time as well. It is also a wristwatch, so it is functional beyond just exercising! I think the new generation of Mios does have more features beyond the HRM, you may want to look at that as well.

I am currently using the Polar Loop (activity tracker) and the Polar H7 it syncs with the loop and you can track using the Polar Flow software on your phone.
