Does seeing hot guys/girls at the gym motivate you?

When you see a really hot guy or girl at the gym, does that motivate you more? Will you work harder if you see a hottie? Or does it not really matter?

Motivate me? No. But it's nice.
Let me tell you something I saw at the gym today that motivated me.
This woman, I'm guessing in her late fifties early sixties, jumps up and grabs the pull up bars on the cable machine thingy.
She snaps off a few pull-ups, no sweat. I'm impressed. Then, she flips up vertical on the bar, does a few dips up there, and then nails the dismount. Now I'm amazed.
I couldn't do that if you offered me a billion dollars.0 -
I go to do my workout, so I don't pay attention to anybody else unless they are using the same space that I am.0

No, seeing a good-looking person does not motivate me.
Interest me, perhaps. Make for pleasant scenery while I'm doing whatever I'm doing, yes.
What motivates me is my own health & well-being.
I do see what other people do, how much weight they're lifting or how fast they're running, and if it's more than I'm doing I know I have room for improvement.
That's how I started jogging. A guy on the treadmill next to me was running much of the time I was walking (I was doing hills for 90 minutes, so it wasn't quite so whimpy as it seems), and at the end he kept bumping up the speed every minute or so until he was running about 9mph. So when he was doing his cool-down I asked him how to get started jogging, because obviously I have lots of room for improvement. We had a nice chat, and a week or so later I finally bit the bullet & tried it. I was really pathetic, but I tried it. And I did it again. And now I can go longer intervals before needing to walk. And eventually I won't need to walk.0 -
Motivate me? No. But gym eye candy is fun.0

doesn't this thread already exist? i mean, not just the 200 times it's been asked, but isn't it right here on the first or second page of this forum?
and my answer is still yes.0 -

Fit does not always equal hot though. There are a lot of fit people I don't find hot. I'm sure many others feel the same way. And let's say a straight lady sees a fit lady at the gym, perhaps she's not motivated. But when she sees a hot guy at the gym, it motivates her to work harder. So I think it's a bit different than seeing fit people, because even though they're fit, you might not find them attractive.0 -
Um, no I just find it intimidating. I felt like that even when I was skinny.0

oh, well such a stark contrast like that definitely deserves it's own thread. silly me for not noticing the huge difference. and most definitely should be here in F&E instead of chit chat.

Watching a 77 year old woman pass me at the end of a race motivates, inspires me and, sigh, discourages me because I will always be slow.0

I do my best work around hot chicks, actually. Nothing like seeing a dead sexy ripped chick to make me squat a little deeper, pick up a little more weight, and jump a little higher.ludazatobom wrote: »Im happily married so no. ...what's being married got to do with anything? You ain't gotta wanna take them home to notice hotness and feel motivated buy it.

Well I do think being fit and being hot are different. I'm sure a lot of people will agree, some might not. I didn't see the other thread...so sorry for not noticing all the of threads? If it doesn't belong in F&E, then a mod can move it.
And this topic deserves it's own thread because I decided to make one. So yeah...0 -
I don't get motivated by hot girls, because that makes sense. I lift as hard as I can whether or not a pretty girl is near by. I don't get some sort of monster testosterone boost just because I see a girl...
But as a 23 year old straight man, obviously I wouldn't complain if I got to sleep with any of them...

Seeing a hot girl motivates me. I think to myself I want those abs or those arms or a rear just like hers and I sometimes push a little harder. Men don't do as much for me at the gym. I have some old timers who like to sit near me and chat on the machines and I enjoy their company and sometimes one of the muscle boys will give me a pointer and I actually appreciate the advise but otherwise I pretty much let the pain motivate me.0

No. I'm there to do my workout and I'm out the door.0

It depends. If I think I'm looking decent and not making a complete fool out of myself, yes. If I feel like my fats jiggling around, and that I'm making a fool of myself during my workout, then I prefer there to be no one around. ESPECIALLY good looking men!0
-
No. I've never been the type to behave in such a way. Maybe because I've always known where I stand in society.0

Bring on the hotness I say! Nothing beats a bit of checking out and showing off. Makes me feel alive!

I love to people-watch, and the gym is one of my favorite places to do it.
That said, I work out at a university gym, so the "hot" people are generally undergrads who are leftover-skinny or muscular from high school and high school athletics and have all the time in the world to work out. Sure, I get a rush when I'm the fastest one on the treadmills, but I'm not busting my butt to be them--there's just no aspiration there.
However. The 70-year-old pounding out supersets? The 62-year-old (we've talked) who pushes her walker up to the rower five mornings a week, snow or sun, without fail? THAT is who I want to be someday. THEY keep me going.0
