Suggested Tough Mudder Gear?

My boyfriend has convinced me to do Tough Mudder this fall with him, and I can't tell if I'm more excited, or terrified! I've been wanting to get in shape for a while now, and this is the perfect motivation! I feel like I'm on the right path to preparing myself mentally and physically-- but what about gear??

I've read a few things here and there about people suggesting goggles, and visors, and camelbacks, and spiderman gloves, and fanny packs, protein bars, you name it. My primary questions on gear are the following:

-What kind of shoes should I buy? (I presume they'll get destroyed, so preferrably something inexpensive or salvageable)

-Gloves: yes or no? (I've heard mixed opinions on this one)

-Are there any Tough Mudder friendly heart rate monitors?? (I currently have a Polar FT4, but the chest strap would be destroyed during the course. I've heard some people suggest FitBit, but I'm not sure if those would stand up to the test?

-Ladies: There's the pretty obvious one, and that's involving the girls. I'd definitely like to keep those in place as much as possible without getting too much mud all up in there (gross!) Any suggestions on sports bras and tops? Compression tops, yay nay?

-Anything else that may be helpful, or that I should certainly avoid?

I appreciate all the helpful advice ahead of time! If anyone wants to share their Tough Mudder experience, I'd love to hear it! :D
