Petite, Afro-Caribbean woman looking to lose 30 pounds

Hi Everyone -
I've wanted to lose 30 pounds for years but I've never stuck with a diet and exercise plan long enough to do so. I hope that this year will be different for two reasons - I've started my diet and exercise plan in January, not March and I'm tracking my caloric intake with myfitnesspal. My goal is to keep tracking my meals and working out at least three times a week until June 2015. I'll re-assess and post my progress along the way so any feedback, encouragement, motivation is always welcome.
