Hey guys! I just started a new profile, and figured I'd introduce myself. I'm Kate, and I'm a junior in college. I battled body image issues since my junior year of high school, and resulting eating disorders (mostly BED and bulimia, although there were periods where I would just stop eating altogether). I have spent so many years hating my body, being too hard on myself, and putting my body through so much unnecessary stress that I am finally committed to finding balance - it's OKAY to eat a brownie when I want one! - and working towards my ultimate goals of being fit, healthy and most importantly, loving myself Y'all's support is much appreciated and I hope to find friends to move along this journey together!

Hi Katie. Balance is good. I call it moderation and I just had an hour long conversation with my precocious 11 yr old grandson about that. Computer games vs homework vs violin practice, vs skateboard, etc. I eat very healthily, then sabotage it by giving into a craving for a Snickers or a chocolate chip cookie at the coffee shop across the street from the office. One of those a week is fine and fun. It is eating 2 a day along with a toffee latte and a soda that led to my 2.5 lb per month gain for 12 months straight several years ago. The nice thing about moderation, or balance, is that you can have your cake and eat it too...in moderation. See the Classical Greek concept of "Sophrosyne". Plato and Aristotle both wrote about it and it is discussed in the literature. What is interesting to me is that it is the opposite of "hubris".0
