Does anyone know if walking is good for weight loss? I jog 3 times a week and i walk on the days I don't jog, but I feel like its a waste of time because I dont feel like im working out, since im not sweating or anything!

Walking is always good - it's movement, which is always better than sitting around. I try to walk daily, even on run days, and on strength days - the dogs always need the exercise, and another 20 minutes doesn't hurt for me either! Some days it's the ONLY exercise I get.
If you don't feel like it's enough, do a short workout video of some kind (fitnessblender.com has over 400 free ones for all levels & abilities, and great variety) - before or after your walk, even an intense 20 minutes of strength or HIIT-type workout is beneficial.0 -
Track your run and your walk with a heart rate monitor. Compare the two. You might be surprised about the walking.0

Weight loss is eating a calorie deficit.
And walking i do for getting fit.
It sure helps of course.
And i walk for at least 60 minutes a day but i really get the power walking done. So i sweat...a lot.
So it isnt strolling along. I also use weights while i walk So i get my heart really up.

I walk for an hour at lunch time at 3.5 mph. If the temperature is above 40 degrees I start sweating about a half hour in. If it is above 50 degrees it only takes 15 mins. In the summer I have to bring an extra shirt to work and clean up at the end.0

For me, no. Going by numerous apps on my phone (no fitbit etc) it works out to 50 steps per ONE calorie. It'll take a while to burn off a chocolate bar!
Of course it's still good to walk as much as you can, but if you want to be burning calories then pretty much any other form of excercise will be more efficient.0 -
For just about anyone, the difference for them walking a mile and running a mile is about 50 calories. So not that significant for say 2 miles, but for 4 miles we're now talking about 200 calories difference which is pretty significant. The the pro for walking is that impact on joints are much much less.

I don't run - I don't want to - I don't enjoy it or the shin splints ...most I've ever done is 3x1 minute intervals on a treadmill
But I walk when I'm not working out - measure it by fitbit -easily get 3-400 calories a day back from it by reaching about 4-5 miles of general activity plus 2x proper walks (the calories are right for me as they work based on weight loss tracking) ...I generally earn the same in a gym cos the weights part of my training gives me back few calories0 -
I very much have learned about the benefits of walking vs running .. the hard way.
Contrary to what some runners will tell you, there is nothing but running. I might have thought so at one time .. until I got a running injury. I learned the benefits of walking .. from my physiotherapist (who has done many marathons and Ironman events).
He said "unless it is your passion, I recommend doing something else. That is cause .. running is very hard on your joints". He said .. "220-300% of your weight on your joints when running .. walking 90%".
He has been fixing runners for 30 years.
So .. the benefits of walking are huge as you will appreciate it when you are older and your joints still work.
Do not underestimate the benefits of walking .. there are many. One of my former MFP friends lost 86 lbs from walking .. and being a on deficit of course. So .. it does work.0
