Elliptical Newbie

I feel dumb saying this, but I have no idea how to use the elliptical. What confuses me most is resistance and speed. I don't know what resistance to choose or what speed to aim for.

Also, I don't know how to mentally "push myself" on the elliptical. Do most ellipticals show your distance in miles? When I'm on the treadmill and I feel like quitting, I push myself for one more quarter mile, and then another, until I reach my mile goal. This is the only way I can motivate myself to continue.

Any tips for an elliptical newbie?

You could choose a resistance and speed that you could do for say 15 minutes. Then next workout choose the same resistance and speed and go for 17 minutes pushing yourself 2 more minutes.

tbh elliptical isn't very good for fat burning despite what the calorie meter says as the machine works mostly on momentum, that's why its so easy. Stick to the treadmill

Also, make sure your feet are flat on the pedals. I used the balls of my feet and my knees ended up hurting. Then I figured out what I was doing, corrected my form and fixed the knee issue. :)

Most ellipticals have speed and resistance programs you can do. Mine has several that are 20mins, 30mins, and 45mins long.
