Am I eating enough calories?

I want to make sure that I'm not having my body lose weight the wrong way. I want to be able to maintain when I hit my goal. MFP has my calorie intake set at 1500. I usually burn 200cals with exercise daily, which puts me at 1,700 ( I do my best to eat back exercise cals). I have in a range of 100-300 calories left over daily. I just used a calorie calculator and it said to lose weight to eat 2072-2322 a day. This seemed like a little much to me. Could it also be that I have my goal set to lose a 1lb a week as to why MFP set it to 1500?

  • I think as long as you are not feeling sick or weak, getting headaches, or losing weight too fast, you are getting enough calories. I am normally under my set calorie intake by between one and four hundred calories. I exercise a lot (I'm a dancer, and I just started running, as well), and I guess my body is just built differently or something because I really don't need that much food. I eat until I'm satisfied and end up being under calories. Part of it is because I eat lots of very low-calorie foods like fruit throughout the day. But everyone is built differently, so the calorie intake they set for you is not always going to be accurate. I was really overeating a while ago, mostly from stress, but once I started paying attention to my body and really listening to it, I was able to judge how much food was really necessary to keep me going. So you be the judge. It's your body, and I see the set calorie intake as more of a maximum than a minimum for me.

Hey guys, I just joined yesterday 2nd June and was really suprised at my daily calories allowance. I barely made it to 2/3 of my allowance and thought that was a fat day! What shocked me though was my sugar intake, it was way off the chart, just by eating apples and grapes ; (
I think in my case, I could eat more but it has to be foods with less sugar.

I am getting really upset because I walk my dog for 2 hours everyday and really don't eat a lot and still no change in weight or shape!

    Hi Misskukie,
    You need to eat MORE.

This happened to me. I was on the treadmill every day for an hour & cutting down on what I was eating & my weight came to a standstill.

I'm now a Curves member & when I told them this, they said that I had to eat more to keep the metabolism up.

Eat more (healthy food) & you'll see a difference :)
