Ideal weight

I'm a 5'11" female, and in my adult life have been anywhere from 162 to 202 lbs. When I was 162, I couldn't imagine losing 20 more pounds...I don't know where it would have come from. But 160 is still in the upper half of normal bmi! I'd like to be on the lower side. But is there any way to know or understand what your body's ideal weight is?

When you reach your goal weight and like what you see then that is the weight for you You can always change your mind, a lot of people do this. You know it is not always about the number on the scale.0

I think it comes down to the point at which you feel the best, which might take into account energy, strength, cardio endurance, and metabolic & lipid panel levels, as well as self-perception of appearance over a several month period.0

There are a lot of factors that determine what weight is "right" for you, like frame size and how much muscle mass you carry. If you are in the healthy range for your height, and are happy with the way you look/feel, then you're good.0

Don't forget about genetics cause ya can't change them. Everyone has a baseline weight that their body likes to stay at which can become evident when you're eating healthy (in a sustainable way...not too restrictive) and exercising moderately. I've found that my baseline weight is between 130 and 140 which is at the higher end of the normal BMI range (I'm 5'3). With my build/natural proportions my body will fight me if I go too far under 130. Take a look at your extended families' body types and come to terms with the body type you've been blessed with0

My goal is 190 which is a BMI of 24.7, right at the very top, within 0.3 of being overweight according to most standards. 192 would put me at a BMI of 25 and overweight. I was between 187 and 192 between the ages of 17 and 55 and I backpacked, climbed mountains all over the world, ran, cycled (including racing in college) and was a serious gym rat. My blood pressure was typically 118/70 and my resting pulse was typically between 60 and 70. When I was 35 and weighed 190 I did a hydrostatic body fat analysis which showed 14% body fat. I am not stocky and have a medium frame. I think that 190 is a reasonable weight for me. To be exactly in the middle of the BMI range for my height I would have to weigh 167! I tried that one time in my 20s and when I got down to 175 I looked anorexic and emaciated. I treat BMI as an interesting number, but give it very little credence. I wish the health insurance companies did the same.0

BMI is straight bull shiz
I am 5'9 and 156lbs and I am near the top of my BMI chart, but I look great and am happy where I am and slowly losing.
Do what FEELS good, and how your clothes fit.0 -
Ignore BMI.
If you eat correctly and exercise often, you'll probably gravitate to a weight that won't be a health risk for you.0 -
The one that makes you happy, is the right one.0

Two weeks ago at the doctor's office, I found out I was 192, which is 13 lbs overweight. I am horrified! He said I am healthy, I don't need to lose weight, my numbers are good, but I don't feel happy. I'm down to 186, but I don't know how to set a goal for myself. I'm thinking I would like to be 145, which is still 6 lbs in the normal range. Do I just lose until I feel happy with how I look?0

I suggest lifting weights until your happy with how you look.
