Calories in an apple?

I feel kind of awestruck regarding how many calories are actually in the average apple. I tend to buy Fiji, but they're higher than I thought. Most in the 60-80 calorie each range.

I know I've heard in the past that you burn more consuming an apple than what's actually contained in it.

Boy I feel kind of dumb asking this, but should I be concerned with how many apples I eat in a day. I would like to eat 2-3, but I'm afraid of adding that many extra calories. Do I treat them like any other calories?

As long as you're in your caloric goals and have no medical reason to avoid excessive amounts of fruit it doesn't matter. I've been stuffing pears into my face lately (with ricotta cheese, because it's amazing). :P

Yes, treat them like any other calories.

And the more apples you have the day, the more important it would be weight the apples, rather than just estimating the caloric content of the average apple.
  • Yes you should count them just like everything else...and...Yes, you should also weigh them to have a more accurate calorie count. Some apples are huge and much more than 60-80 calories!

Seconding weighing them. I buy avocados every now and then, and the calorie count can be WAY off depending on their size.
