So my youngest son's birthday is this coming weekend. He'll be 16, didn't want a party, just wants to have dinner with the family at the local Chinese place and then spend the day at the movies, laser tag, gaming store. I am able to look at the menu at the Movie Tavern before we go so that I can make the best choice and there is nutritional info out there for it. It's the Chinese I'm worried about. It's one of the buffet style places where every thing is either deep fried or caked in some form of oil. I'm not sure what the best choices are there. Anyone out there eat at similar Chinese buffets and can suggest the best things to eat? I LOVE everything they have but won't eat like I normally do, as it would be my entire weeks caloric allowance. =)
TIA!!

There are a lot of Chinese places where I live that have special diet menus with no added oils, salts or sugar. Maybe they have similar items you can ask for.

Egg drop soup, egg foo yong, without the sauce, mongolian barbecue, steamed shrimp, . . baked fish,
Call and ahead of time and ask for options without sauce or fried.

Like the previous poster said, any soup with a clear broth is a safe bet. Also, any grilled or steamed vegetables, grilled meats, and boiled or steamed (not fried) rice are good choices. And of course a fortune cookie is only about 25 calories.

Also try to remember that this is only ONE meal and one meal isn't going to make or break you!
