after working on my Xmas weight for 4 weeks I went to a party and ate 3,000 over what I generally eat on my diet. I had been going 300 to 500 under maintance except on weekends when I have been staying right on goal. 3 days later I am 2 to 3 lb down. What gives?

Water fluctuation. Just get back to your plan, things will be cool. :)

I lost 2 to 3 lb by going over my calories by 3,000.

That's happened to me before after eating a ridiculous amount of Taco Bell lol. Just see it as a fluke, and resume your usual routine/diet. :) Thank God you didn't gain!

Daily fluctuations mean very little. Trend is really what matters from a tracking perspective. There is simply not a 1:1 ratio of intake and gain or less at a granularity of less than a week (and even that isn't as accurate as over a longer period of time).

I haven't been this low in my weight in 3 or more years and this was after a terrible terrible cheat.

You're not paying attention. A one day cheat is not going to make a difference more or less. Congrats on the loss, but it's a data anomaly.
