Hello everyone. I am looking for some help/advice with my fitness plan. I currently run and do cycle for cardio (not in love with either) and do a group power class 3x week ( weight lifting class put to music...relatively low weight high reps). I would like to start doing some heavy lifting. I bought the NROLFW book which suggests 2-3 times a week. Can i work this in on top of what I'm already doing or will I not have enough recovery? What i really don't want to give up is group power on monday and Wednesday's. Thanks for any help!!

Do NROLFW and do some cardio on your off days

Hmm. Okay. So...give up the group power entirely? I really enjoy it and am making friends in the class. Was hoping for suggestions including both but maybe thats your blunt way of telling me it isn't possible.

Or lighten your weights in the group power to make it more like straight cardio.

If you limit your power class to Monday and Wednesday and then do a heavy lifting day on Friday or Saturday, you can mix some cardio in between. But then make sure you take the day after heavy lifting day off for rest and recovery. I think you’ll like what you get from the heavy lifting and want to replace the power class with it (maybe inviting one of your new friends to join you with the barbells).

No, more of my blunt way of saying that the power class is kind of a waste of time. The results you get from actual lifting and cardio will be better than what you get from a bodypump kind of class. But if you enjoy it and have friends in there you could squeeze it in one day a week or you could bring one of your buds into the free weight section with you. It is good to have a lifting partner if you can find someone who is dedicated and reliable.

Thank for your opinion guys :) I could be persuaded to drop to just Mondays with power (it is annoyingly busy right now due to new years resolutions). So monday power class...wednesday, friday, sunday heavy lifting and a few short (30min) cardio sessions. Sound okay? Now to concur my fear of looking like a moron in the weight room with all the big chiseled men who are probably a lot nicer than they look.

I’d skip the Sunday heavy day if you’re going to do the Monday power class, until you see how your recovery is going.
