At the moment I'm eating 1200 calories a day and exercising doing 30-45 mins of cardio 3x a week, really just need to stay motivated! Any advice for how to stay on track ladies?

ridiculous goal unless you're morbidly obese / have over 75lbs to lose
  • thats just over 2lbs a week, I think you can do it!

just dont do anything silly or drastic. x

But you know nothing about her

We don't know her current weight, goal weight or activity level

if she has less than 75lbs, and her ticker says 6lbs, to lose I stand by my comment that over 2lbs a week is not a good goal to have as she will burn through more muscle than she needs to which is simply not good.

She's 21 and by the look of her picture (and the fact that her profile says 6 pounds to go), this IS DRASTIC AND SILLY. Why would you encourage this?

It doesn't appear you have that much weight to lose. A half pound a week would be more realistic.

I would drop the aggressive weight loss goal and concentrate on lifting heavy. That will have greater impacts on your body than fast weight loss.
  • and how do you know that her profile is up to date regarding goals/weight because mine isnt, as im sure a lot of peoples profiles are not up to date. my profile picture is also an old one

the point is if someone isnt happy and is trying to lose weight to make them personally feel better/healthier then i thought the point was to encourage them and support them?

Of course if she is underweight or only has 6lbs to lose then I wouldnt promote it, you need to all chill out and stop going on.

It is, but suggesting an unhealthy approach isn't encouragement. It's wreckless. And based on the current data, someone with only 6 lbs or even a stone (as the OP), shouldn't be aiming for 2 lbs per week.

And no, we don't need to chill out. We are trying to set realistic expectations for the OP to help he success long term.

    Nope

The point is to provide information to help them pick the right course of action

support is not telling people they're right and saying there-there or way to go, support is giving people proper information not bro-science

    I am so supportive I don't even own a set of pom-poms

One needs to remember when responding in here, that there are a lot of "lurkers" (people who don't actually comment, but read the forums), in here. If someone is promoting unsafe practices, they are going to be called on the carpet. We do not need to "chill out"!

Hi there, I'm 136lbs and 5'9" at the moment. Trying to get down to 125lbs isn't drastic at all, I just wanted an accountability partner to stay in track being fit and healthy :) my dad is a fitness trainer and nutritionist so I'm definately sure I'm not overdoing, like I said I just needed girls I could relate to to keep me motivated that I'm not alone!

And by lose a stone, I meant of fat to be replaced by muscle mass

You aren't going to build muscle mass on 1200 calories a day.

Do you know hat a stone is? It's NOT a realistic goal for the OP.

Well you can't replace fat with muscle. You can pretty much either lose fat or gain muscle but when you gain muscle you also gain fat. So you have to cut after. At 125 you would be under weight, so why not just have a small deficit and lift heavy. A program like the new rules of lifting for women can be a great start.

if she has a tiny frame, 125 may not be underweight for her.

6 weeks is an unhealthy time frame for getting there, though.

Why does it have to be so fast? It never ceases to amaze me, these people who come on her and want to look like a bikini model in a month. They starve themselves and do cardio like a hamster on a wheel. They use their initial water loss as proof that they could lose fast and then complain that "it stopped working."

Of course, then they are exhausted and hungry so they binge and gain it all back. Then begins the "I'm just addicted to food" handwringing until the next fad diet rolls around.

Ah, I missed her height. 5'9" is a bit tall for 125.

I spent most of my life at 5'7" and 110-115ish, technically underweight, but that was my natural setpoint until I hit 40. I have a freakishly small frame (which is why I'm so obsessive about bone health, and a believer in lifting heavy and eating ice cream), and so always give the benefit of the doubt on people's goal weights unless there are other ED red flags. Even at my heaviest, I had to get clothes cut down in the shoulders, I wear children's size on many jewelry items, etc. Don't get me started on finding a decent workout bra when your band size is in the 20s. So, I just get it that some people have a goal weight that LOOKS too low.

However, the low goal coupled with the crazy time frame does start the flags a-rising, so your point is well taken.

And what exactly does your father, the nutritionist and fitness trainer, say about his daughters plan to lose weight at an unhealthy rate to achieve an underweight BMI?

Either bulk or cut, and I think you should bulk ...because you aren't doing both simultaneously ..speak to your father, the nutritionist and fitness trainer
