New reason to lose weight

I have lost my sense of smell. I can only tell if something is salt, or sweet, or sour or bitter, but I can't tell any flavor. For example, all ice cream tastes the same...cold, creamy, sweet...that's it. Not that that's bad. I can still binge on it if I'm not careful.
I can't sniff food to see if it's spoiled, I can't smell smoke or a gas leak, I can't tell if my dogs stink, or my house (or me.) It's hard to cook, too. I miss the non-food scents the most: Flowers, fresh cut grass, the ocean, rain...
One day at work, apparently, a rodent had died up above the ceiling in my office, and the first person in my office that day goes "What is that horrible smell?" Me: What smell?
After all kinds of scans and tests, which continue, my doctor thinks it's caused by inflamation. Only steroids help and only for a few weeks, two months is the record, then I have to wait another six months before I can have another shot.
Sorry about all the bellyaching...suck it up, buttercup...but I'm becoming desperately unhappy about this and I'm looking for anything I can do.
Here's the weight loss connection: I read something about excess abdominal fat contributing to an inflammatory state in the body. Do you thing if I lost all this belly, I would be able to smell again permanently? As if I needed any other reason to want to lose weight, this might really be the thing.
Any other ideas would be most welcome.
