I've decided to cut out refined carb/sugars, so no bread, pasta, crackers, cookies, cakes, candy, etc. for a month and then reintroduce whole grains (and cakes on special occasions!). Has anyone done this? Does it have an effect or do you need to cut/reduce carbs entirely? I'm still shooting for 100g of carbs per day, but mainly from fruits and veggies.
thanks!
thanks!

I'm better at controlling calories.0 -
Cutting out "white foods" will only help if that makes you lessen your calories. You can lose weight while eating rice, pasta, potatoes, etc.
I personally don't believe in cutting anything out unless there is a medical, ethical or religious reason to do so.0 -
I would say that it would help decrease spikes in insulin and blood sugar levels...maybe helping decrease any cravings you may have. I know for me, if I start eating regular white pasta...I could eat the WHOLE box in one sitting. It doesn't really fill me up. I've eaten a lot less of the stuff you mentioned in the last two weeks and I feel like my cravings and later at night eating have subsided a great deal. I'm starting to PMS, so we'll see what happens over the next day or two. I was planning on having some GS thin mints later tonight...but decided against it because it may set me off. I have 5 boxes in the freezer and planned to only have one box/month. If I keep going at this rate I'll still have them sitting in my freezer until next year. :laugh:0

I went obvious gluten free almost two months ago. I don't get real picky if there is a trace of wheat in things. However, I am of an older vintage so losing very slow. The benefits include not needing asthma medication (which I usually do need this time of year with trees blooming), or the prescription for acid reflux. I definitely feel better as well. After meals don't feel sluggish. I find I am not eating the things you might add to bread or toast this way and definitely more veggies and fruit to take their place. My carb count is way down by doing this.0

I LOVE white foods. I've learned that a calorie is a calorie. If I completely cut out, I feed deprived and that can only bring doom. So everything in moderation, and I lose weight. While happy!0

Removing gluten from my diet is what helps me the most. If I stick to a diet of mostly fruits and vegies and lean meats(which now I am trying to eliminate meat too) I do very well and lose consistently. But alas I have the king of sabatoge living with me and he loves to junk food out on the weekends. So the more I try the more I fail. Will power is not in my vocabulary!0

I cut out all processed foods and lost 23 lbs. I made all my own bread and pasta from scratch with whole grain flour. Let me tell you... Making your own pasta from scratch is enough work that you will only ever eat it as the treat it should be, instead of stuffing yourself full of it several times a day.
I still eat pizza once every two weeks or so, but I make it from scratch now, and it's pretty darn healthy! It took a while to get into the life style, but I just changed out one food at a time, and before I knew it, I made being a health nut look easy!
Just change one food at a time and don't stress. Switch your rice to brown rice... Then in a week or two switch out your sugary snacks for things you make at home (Even a home made brownie is better for you than the store version!) and on down the line until everything you put in your mouth was made by you in your own kitchen. You'll be so busy learning to cook like never before that you won't even notice your figure changing until someone at your office points it out. ;-)0 -
I agree with Jeanywren. I too went on a cut. No obvious gluten (still working on the hidden ones, no grain products (pasta, bread), no corn (or corn syrup) and as little processed foods and sugars that I can manage.
Yes, it was DRASTIC. It was hard the first two weeks. I needed to cut my addiction. But after that, I don't crave them anymore. And the few times I do, I am able to substitute something else in its place, like coconut flour recipes.
My husband has dropped 25lbs in 7wks with it and I have dropped over 15 (13.5 on chart but I've had some fluctuation because I started off low with the dreaded 1200 calorie plan), with other much more tangible benefits such as asthma, acid reflux, joint inflammation, depression, mood swings, bloating, and a lot of other things have almost completely disappeared. Inflammation is related to so many diseases, that although it was hard, it was a necessary change for us. (Which is not for everyone)0
