Do you measure mayonnaise in a cup or on a scale? Thanks

I always measure it on a scale. Not only is it more accurate, but there is one less dish to wash.

^this is how I do it too. I put the jar on the scale, tare the scale so that it reads zero, and then scoop out as much as I want. The negative number will tell me how much I used.

Plus, who doesn't want to feel like a mad scientist while they're cooking?

High calorie dense foods like mayo and peanut butter I do on a scale because sometimes it can weigh as much as 2 servings and equal 200 calories instead of 100 in a spoon. Its really annoying.

    What about butter?

    Is it solid? Weigh it.
Is it fluid? Still weigh it.

This is IMO the only way to get accurate logging.

FIFY. No scale in existence will properly weigh out liquids unless they are water or basically the exact equivalent, even if your scale has a ML option.

ETA I used to weigh liquids too. Consistency is mor eimportant, but... really... I'd rather measure something that cannot be weighed.

Weigh ALL solids. I use a measuring cup or spoons for liquids.

I usually use a spoon. I tried weighing out a serving of mayo not that long ago, and it was way more mayo than I eat on a sandwich. I tried weighing the slice of bread, smearing mayo on it, and then weighing it again, and it weighed 2 grams more.

I think whether you weigh it or just do a light smear and just say you used a serving of it depends entirely on how much you use.

If I used a lot, I would weigh it.

All mayo here is listed in mL, not g, so I have to use a measuring spoon and hope for the best :(

Mostly now I just eyeball it and overestimate when logging. I use mayo so infrequently that I'm not too worried about it. I hate scraping things out of measuring spoons/cups.

Why can't you weigh liquids? I weigh my egg whites every night. Of course you need the nutritional information in grams; if you don't have that then weighing is pointless unless you happen to know the specific gravity, which isn't usually listed on nutritional labels. :D

heres what i do (is it RIGHT? no but it works for me) i use WAY less than a tablespoon (weighted) of mayo. at least half that, maybe even less. i say i use a tbsp. i do the same with butter on toast. its one less measurement i have to remember from the kitchen to my laptop and it pads my calories ever so slightly for things like that sip (literally) of soda I take from my husbands drink in the car LOL

Egg whites come in grams. Liquids that are presented in ML/fl oz are to be measured.

Look up an equivalent brand/entry that lists the same serving size in grams for the same macros.

This doesn't answer your question, but I'd say...don't eat the mayo.

lol I had previously given up my mayo (forbidden love) but I had oral surgery a few days ago and haven't been able to eat, so i decided to make some mashed potatoes to get my calorie count up. I like my mashed potatoes with mayo.

:/ weird. But I've never tried it, so I won't knock it - I've been told eating potatoes with KETCHUP is weird, but uh hello? Potatoes = soft fries.

I weigh just about everything. 1. because it is more accurate 2. because it creates less dishes.

I find that they turn out a lot smoother when you add mayo. mmm....

So I actually just measure my butter with the lines on the side of the stick. I'm sure that's not as accurate as weighing, but I mostly use butter when cooking and it's just easier for me to measure it that way.
