McDonald's Pay with Lovin'

McDonald's has this new thing where if you're randomly chosen, you can opt to "pay" for your food by doing a random act of "lovin" which is up to the cashier. It could be a fist bump, a dance, or it could be giving someone in line with you (like, from your own party) a hug/kiss.

The idea behind this is that there's too much hate in the world, so they want to replace it with some kind of "love" (here's a better explanation: http://www.thepennyhoarder.com/free-mcdonalds-pay-with-lovin/)

Am I the only one who finds this creepy? I also believe it's really just a way for McDonald's to make more money because I think if you feel like there's a possibility for free food, you're more likely to go to McDonald's.

  • I agree, it's just a way to get more customers because people are going to think they might get free food.

I don't find it creepy though, I think more people should do random acts of kindness

I agree with random acts of kindness. I try to smile at people and say hi and generally be friendly, and I'll always hold a door open for someone, etc things like that. What I think is creepy is putting myself at the mercy of a cashier's discretion for free food.

I think the sentiment is actually nice; this world needs more peace and kindness. However, this will not get me into a McDonald's anytime soon. I've not eaten McDonald's food in probably five years, other than a tea or coffee on the run.

Patronizing. They want you to feel good about their brand.

They think they'll see an uptick in sales greater than their loss in food costs.

PS - The one in the commercial about calling your mom especially got to me: my mom is recovering from a stroke and can't talk on the phone. Thanks cashier!

I feel the same way. I made a joke on a facebook post saying that if I was going to *kitten* myself for food, I would want it to be a lot better than McDonalds. Someone got very offended by it. I didn't really mean any harm by it.

Sorry to hear about your mom. I agree with you though that I think it's really just a way for them to make more money.

Hahahaha, love it! I generally don't like to be singled out, and I totally wouldn't have the patience to do "something" for my meal. Just let me swipe my freaking card.

This rings a bell with me as well. I have no problem chatting with people on the internet, but if I'm out in public I am kind of introverted. It would bug me to be made a spectacle of in front of an entire restaurant of strangers.

ETA: I apparently can't quote either.
