Running in the Rain

I chickened out of a couple runs last week because it was raining and I hate walking in the rain, never mind running in it. However, since it's STILL BLOODY RAINING, I need to suck it up and get out there. Any tips for making it less uncomfortable? Clothing suggestions? I usually wear lululemon crops, but I feel like they just soak up water.

If it's warm and raining I wear my running skirt. Generally the skirt gets wet, but shorts underneath are completely dry. I definitely perfer less material covering my legs when it's raining. Wear a baseball hat to keep the rain out of your eyes and be careful stepping off curbs. If you step in a deep puddle and get your feet completely soaked, you could end up with blisters.

Otherwise, embrace it! Running in the rain is awesome!

A hat is a must. I did my first rain run without one and couldn't see a thing. Where I live if its raining, its cold so I run in capris (skin tight is best to avoid rubbing) and a long sleeve tech shirt. It really isn't that bad.

Generally where I live, it only rains when it's cold - so I wear full running tights, a shirt and a running jacket. The key for me was already mentioned - watch where you step! Running in the rain is completely bearable but does kinda suck if you stomp in a big puddle and get your whole foot soaked.

And, I don't know where you run, but I generally run on this trail system that is adjacent to some waterways used in my area for water management. So if we've had a lot of rain, I have to be careful and watch for running water, draining water, etc. Just be more alert than you otherwise would be.
  • These are great ideas! I ran this am in the rain, so I wish I read this first.

My ideas: Phone/iPod in a ziplock sandwich baggy. Don't wear a white shirt! lol Hat with visor.
