Is it really that terrible...

I'm not trying to be annoying, but is it really that terrible to be eating 1000 calories a day. Can it cause bad side effects in a short amount of time?

I used to have an eating disorder (never underweight) but I stopped restricting to under 1200 calories for a long time and almost completely stopped binging and purging.

I just don't understand why my body is not reacting well to 250 less calories. Its only been 5 days and I just feel really crummy, I use to eat way less. I won't go under 1000, and I'm only staying at a 1000 for a month. I'm trying to decide if what I am doing is okay or not. Is it okay?

You're post is confusing but it looks like you're saying you are cutting from 1200- to 1000 and you feel crummy.

you feel crummy because you don't have enough fuel to function well.

    so yes.

    it's bad.

Many people can't sustain a 1200 calorie diet much less 1000 calories. You said yourself, you feel crummy and you have a history with eating disorders. Maybe you need to get some help so that you can have a healthy relationship with food. You know that you are eating WAY less than you should and you don't feel well, this isn't a way to live! Wishing you all the best.

I am in my fifties and I have enjoyed extreme weight loss over the past eighteen months. losing ninety pounds. I have progressed from morbidly obese to obese.

You are within your normal range. You have little to lose. Yet you want to go extreme. You could easily progress from healthy to underweight with the associated health problems. Why?

It is painful for me to watch you mistreat your body this way. Food is nutrition. Food is life. Eat to the minimum and make sure you are getting your protein to be the healthiest young woman you can be.

    No. Its not okay.

Look, if you accidentally eat under 1200 calories once in a while (no more than once a week) it would likely be just fine. But consistently eating less than your body requires to function is going to cause you harm.

But it's a good thing that eating too little feels crummy, it's supposed to be like that, because that feeling will - normally - make you realise that you are eating too little, and eat more.

You will never become a warrior on 1000 calories per day. Depending on what you eat, how much you have to lose and how tall you are, you may or may not suffer problems eating that low. But the fact that you feel crummy should be a signal that you need to eat more.

Yeah I guess most people just realize that they are eating to little and react rationally. Gosh, sounds so simple. Once I get focused on doing one thing, I find it very difficult to not follow my exact plan of how I want to do that thing. It is very ridiculous. I just want to say to bad to what my body wants... I just think some how my body is different and that I have to do things this way (aka the hard way).

    The hard way...the ED way...

Maybe talking to someone in person would help you work through some of the emotional gunk you've got going on about this?
  • Probably, but I am way to anxious to get any real help. So that's fun

A lovely lady in my therapy group has an anxiety disorder. It took everything she had to come to our first meeting. She came across as a lovely china doll, never speaking. After opening up, what a surprise she was; witty as hell. It would have been a terrible waste if she had never left her home and made the leap to health.

So I believe you are very anxious. But not so anxious that you can't get help.

Excellent response. OP, please listen to jgnatca! She's knows of what she speaks.
