Log under cardio - there is an entry for it. The weight training section is for tracking your lifts.

    Yep, under cardio. One calorie.

In general, (IMO) you will likely be better off if you don't.

If you are lifting fairly heavy when you lift (and not doing callisthenics with 1Lb weights ;) ) , yes... you will be burning off *some* energy that is in the form of Glycogen that will need to be replenished, but you are not actually burning off a lot of calories. Unless you are doing a **lot** of lifting, I wouldn't log it.

...and do not use a heart rate monitor to log calories burned with resistance training - they are not meant to model resistance work, but cardio work. People who use HRM's when lifting are doing so for noting recovery times/etc... not for calorie burn.

FYI - just as an aside...If you do any cardio when you do lifting - I recommend doing it following your resistance training. You will have energy for your lifting because your muscles will have access to the stores of glycogen (readily available energy stores for your muscles) that will power your workout, and your cardio will be fuelled by fat burning as you can do with a slower energy release source of energy. The other way around and your cardio burns off your glycogen first and your resistance training isn't effectively fuelled by fat burning because energy isn't as accessible to your muscle tissue.

  • Thank you all so much. I met with a trainer who set up a plan. 15 min light cardio stretching, weights and then another 15 min cardio. The weights are broken down by days-legs, abs, arms
It felt good. I'm really starting to get the hang of working out. Today was day 17 of the gym-my goal is 30 workouts in 30 days. I'm finally committing!
