I can't believe a doctor told you to eat that amount. Not sustainable atall. Stick to your daily calories on here and try to cut back on fat and sugar. Get back to basics with cooking and calorie counting0

I have to believe that OP misunderstood her doc - a 500 calorie deficit is more likely the advice. No sane doctor would ever recommend <500 calories per day.0 -
Yikes 500 calories is too low that is why you feel ill and faint. I would suggest logging your food and eating balanced meals. I my opinion I would get a different doctor.0

Well she did hun n even told me what to eat, half slice toast for breakfast, porridge made with water for lunch n a low cal meat n two veg or fish for tea.....she even said thats what she eats every day n she is active! I have done the 1200 a day cals i dont have much fat either n im good most of the time for tea0

What is the actual question... Calorie counting does not/will not work?
Your doctor had you on only 500 calories a day? Is this a medical weight loss for quick weight loss because of your health?
Or can this be that under 500 cals is your deficit... You appear to be new according to your diary and it looks like you have been logging since today..

Time to find a qualified nutritionist, and tell off your doctor. That is ridiculous, and straight up dangerous advice.0 -

Im not new just not been recording everything as lost all motivation.Yes it was 400-500 a day sometimes if i had salad it only came in at 390 etc No its not cos of my health its cos im devastated to have put back on a lot of the weight i had lost so its for my mental state as its made me depressed going from a very active person to a housebound couch potatoe0 -

I thought so too but when i lost the 12st 4yrs previous i was active so just assumed the doctor knew better than me as i have never been disabled before0 -
Oh, I have no doubt you lost weight at 500 calories/day. But with that kind of diet, you'll lose teeth & hair, as well.
You can eat at a deficit, but at 500 calories, there's no way you're getting all the nutrition you need to be healthy.
There's eating at a deficit, and then there's anorexia. There's a reason the latter is dangerous.0 -
Injured sporter/athlete here too.
And grew back some pounds ( not all luckily)
First of all when you do nothing at all than 1200 calories can be enough But everybody is different.
I do 1200+ which means i eat back 1/4 of my training's calories...yes i train again. Aldo 2 surgeons told me i would not walk again. Well i do! walk and even jog every day 60 minutes on the treadmill and i lift 3 times a week light for 30 minutes. When my leg and back dont cooperate ( what happens sometimes) i swim and lift more. Workouts without leg work lol. But i am determent to get fit again, despite my injury.
So doctors can be wrong or like said here maybe you really understood wrong. Because 500 calories a day is really absurd.
I would check back with your doctor..when the advice is the same i would dump him/her.
Without exercising ( because i couldn't at the beginning) i lost my first pounds. So it can be done. But please be sensible about it.
For me the key is : weigh every solid food and measure every liquid.
moderation and portion control.

You need a better doctor and also one without an eating disorder.0

You do not need to starve to lose weight.

500 calories a day is insane and you need to switch doctors. This woman is irresponsible.
Go with MFP's calorie recommendations and you will lose without exercise. You CAN do this.
As for putting on two pounds--this is likely water weight. Did you weigh after going to the bathroom first thing in the morning and BEFORE you ate or drank anything? Could you be retaining water for hormonal reasons?0 -

I'm so sorry for your health troubles. If I went from being that active to disabled I would probably be depressed, too. The only way I could possibly fathom a doctor advising a 500 calorie per day program is if someone is completely bedridden. Even then it would be short term. However, since you said that SHE herself eats this way, then I have to agree with the other posters: please get a 2nd opinion.
Are you working with a physical therapist to rehab for your injuries? As TheOwlHouse noted, weight can be lost without exercise. Good advice from her, too, as she has had experience with a similar issue. I'd say see if you can get some physical therapy and then keep working on your own to gain back as much mobility as possible.0 -
I've said it before and I'll say it again, doctors are not nutritionists and do not have the necessary knowledge to tell you how to eat. The amount of calories your body will burn just through being alive will be way more than what Dr. Eating Disorder has prescribed.0

I would suggest getting a second opinion. Can you see a nutritionist also? 500 calories is very extreme and I'm usually skeptical about things too extreme.0 -
Just adding this... I've lost 11kgs ( 24lbs ) in 4mths with zero exercise.0
