Exercising after hairline fracture on tibia and fibula

hi all, I'm having a confusing time finding when I can get back to walking and exercising. Three weeks ago I fell and hurt my ankle X-rays show small hairline fracture but no break. Bruising is almost gone and am off of crutches, area still a little tender and I know not to over do things, I just really need to get back to my usual routine as I have put weight back on through inactivity. Do you good folks have any tips or ideas on how I can incorporate any exercises back into my daily life? Many yhanks

Do you have access to a pool? You might even be able to ask a nearby hotel if you can use their pool for a few weeks while you finish healing.

    Fracture is a break.

Be sure to ask your doctor about water exercise--it's non-weight bearing, but in some cases that can interfere with fracture recovery.

If you don't want to gain weight, eat less. :)

    This.

I had a stress fracture on my fibula, but not the tibia, too. I was able to use an exercise bike, but had to limit walking, no running, and only seated weight lifting, and I started easing back into regular exercise after 8 weeks.

Your doctor should tell you what's ok for you to do and when. Do you have a followup scheduled?

Doctor or physical therapist will give you good advice. I second above posters with poll (try deep water running) or biking.

well it's taken a good 6 months to get back to running, back to 'powerwalking' with avengence and back to getting this 10lb back off. It was a waiting game. Thanks for all of the advice
