My husband is in the army and used P90X to get into shape prior to going to officer school, it helped him lose 15-20 lbs. I would also recommend starting to run and do push ups, you'll be doing a lot of that at basic.0

If you're new to running, I recommend the couch-to-5K programme. There is an active group here where you find all the information needed.0 -
Calorie deficit is for weight loss. Exercise is for fitness. The military uses weight screening tables to enlist ... so start in the kitchen.0

You need to start with the Put Down The Fork routine.
Add in some cardio. And bodyweight exercises like pushups and pullups.
But mostly, you need to get your eating under control.0 -
Losing weight is about eating at a calorie deficit, rather than the training that you do.
Given that new entry tests and most NE training is about cardiovascular fitness and bodyweight work then I'd recommend a balanced programme of running and bodyweight training.
Given the amount of weight you've got to lose then I assume that you don't do much, if any, phys. So I'd support the Couch to 5K suggestion, then moving on to 10K training.
As far as bosyweight work is concerned, I like You Are Your Own Gym.0 -
My husband is in the Army and I have a pretty good idea of what he does during PT so I figured I would chime in.
Obviously you need to start by working on your eating as weight loss is simply calories in vs calories out but here are some workout ideas...
First, start working on your run. Couch to 5k is a good starting point, as someone said above.
Incorporate "rucking" into the mix. Basically a long walk with a weighted backpack of about 20lbs or so.
Push ups, sit ups and pull ups are used frequently. Flutter kicks, overhead arm claps, burpees and walking lunges are all things I hear him complain about on a regular basis as well. So those would be great too, lol.
Honestly though, basically any well rounded workout routine mixed with running will get you ready and will help you lose the weight. Good luck!0 -

I've lost 32 pounds so far and go to the gym 4-5 times a week. But I will definitely look into that program. As far as food goes, (this is a reply to other comments) I've been vegetarian for roughly 8 months, and am always finding new healthy recipes:) thank you to everyone who commented, it really did help:)0 -
Thumbs-up to Couch to 5k (C25k) - it's a good program.0

PX 90, tap out, 1500-1800 calories a day. The routine will get you in shape(PX90/TAPOUT) If you can do 25 pushups(Military correct) sit ups and run a whole 2 miles in a single sitting. You will smoke you PT tests
The calories deficient and px90/tap routines will help you shed the weight you need. In 90 days you will swear in. Good Luck.0 -

It's not clear where you're from, but in the British military maintaining a vegetarian diet is, whilst possible, a challenge. The caterers aren't good at keeping it particularly varied I'm afraid.
My experience of US messing is in the deployed environment; Afghan, Iraq etc and remaining vegetarian in those chow halls was near impossible.
