Tips for traveling?

Has anyone had success sticking to their diet/exercise routine while traveling? I've been doing pretty well lately, but I have a business trip next week, and I'm feeling doomed! Any tips you've picked up along the way that could help?

Here's one I'll throw out to you. If you are staying in a hotel, check to see if they have a fitness center and/or swimming pool. If they do, and you have the time, use them!

Yes to this. I am also not above doing pilates and strength training in my room (planks are easy to do anywhere!).

I travel a fair amount for work and am sometimes trapped by catered lunches or dinners where there are no good options. Honestly, it all comes down to portion control. I am sure you have a good sense by now of what a serving size is, what is more caloric and therefore not the best option...have the willpower to not eat everything on your plate that is served. Also, always opt for water instead of soda and juices and other calories you drink.

just try to enjoy yourself while remaining sensible. you are on vacation you shouldnt burden yourself with working out. plus the time off will ignite you when returning to your routine.

Pretty sure business trip doesn't equal vacation.

OP, if you have your laptop, google some HIIT workouts to squeeze into 20 min. Unless you're traveling to another country, you're still going to have the same food choices, just out of your routine. You can bring some snacks and trail mix to keep with you if you do find that you wont get to eat for a while or don't like the food choices. Otherwise just make smart decisions.
  • I bring healthy snacks with me. Depending on the length of the trip, I use the fridge in the hotel room and stock up on things like yogurt and fruit. I research healthy restaurants in whatever city I'm traveling to. I go for a walk and/or bring an exercise DVD to use on my laptop (Netflix has great exercise DVDs) in my hotel room. I travel with resistance bands which I also use in my hotel room if the hotel doesn't have a gym. I bring a water bottle and try to stay hydrated. If I'm in a group, I try to find someone else who wants to work out with me or go for a walk or play a game of tennis or something during the trip. It can be a challenge, but it is definitely possible to succeed on the road -- good luck and have a great trip!
