Just had my "last meal"...

...before starting. I'll be starting tomorrow, and this was lunch, but my mum cooks for us all on Sunday nights and she is very health-conscious, so Sunday dinner is always healthy.
I had McDonalds (my favourite fast food). A large triple cheeseburger meal with an individual cheesecake for dessert.
But it was a huge mistake. I didn't enjoy it one bit. It just tasted oily and I didn't really even like the taste that much. I was actually glad to be finished. I can't wait to start healthy eating.
Did anyone else have a "last meal"? Please tell me about your experience. (It is so great to know that I am not alone in this.)

No.
I still eat the same things I like except......in moderation!!0 -
Absolutely. I did. And then as time went on, I realized that if I really wanted to eat something I could find a way. Either I'd eat it, and move on (nachos), or I'd make my own version of it (pizza), or I'd find a restaurant that made a healthier version of it (also pizza).
Dont think of yourself as on death row. Think of yourself as improving your life. Find ways that do it AND taste awesome. Everything you eat should taste awesome.

I've had many "last meals" and that type of mentality is why I always had more than one. I kept cutting things out of my diet and depriving myself. I also completely changed my diet, went vegetarian, vegan, raw, etc I've done it all. Now a days I just eat what I want (within reason... no fast food for example) and watch the portion size.
You also need to think in terms of lifestyle change and diet. A diet is temporary, we see a lot of the dieters back on the forums complaining they gained weight back. A lifestyle change is more permanent, sure one day you'll eat more, but you get my point. You're also not on death row as sabine said, don't feel like you have to punish yourself. I'd rather be fat and happy than skinny and miserable about my food. Just my two ¢s0 -
Nah, I decided to start my diet in the middle of the afternoon--so I had salad for dinner.
You can eat hamburgers and cheesecake while you lose weight (I have). You might not get them both on the same day or you might have to take calories from other days to make it work, but you can have them.
Start "healthy eating" now.0 -
"Did anyone else have a "last meal"? "
No. My whole approach has been to get myself to stop thinking of food as entertainment or reward. A last meal would have been to affirm that I was about to embark on some long deprivation. That's a tough way to start.0 -
Yeah you really don't need to give up unhealthy foods forever. I think if you have at least a small treat every day (and maybe one larger treat a couple of times a week) it helps you stick to your diet overall. I had cookies or chocolate every day when I was dieting, just a small portion.
Plus if you work out, you'll have more calories to spend.0 -
I had my last meal of ice cream about an hour ago...
I don't like to think of anything as "last meal". I'm never not going to want or have ice cream, pizza, McDonald's, ect....I just am more mindful of my intake, and learning how to fit everything into a balanced intake.0 -

For ME it helped to stop thinking of calories as things I "get to spend".
But yes, cookies are yummy. And if it helps you to adhere to your plant to eat a few, ABSOLUTELY.
(for me, it made matters worse, but that's where the individual comes into play.)
congrats on your awesome success.0 -
No. I was already eating in a way that I thought would help me lose weight...so salads, with too much of everything. I made a fast switch and learned how to incorporate all foods I love.0

I have lost >160 lbs and I still eat meals I enjoy with pornographic enthusiasm all the time.0

No. I fell into the "one last" trap when I went to quit smoking. I had a LOT of one lasts with that so I didn't want to do it with food.
I did slowly transition into my new diet /lifestyle, just because I made a move to an extreme- an elimination diet to help with gut health as well as weight loss. I did find that moving slowly into a drastic change helped make it easier to get into it. These days I still eat what I want, within reason (found out I've got some severe intolerance/allergies so I don't touch those). I just make sure it fits. Wine, desserts, etc. they all fit, because I make them. And honestly it's made it easy to not want "one last".0 -

I had a last meal. Many in fact. "Present me" would indulge in a last meal because "future me" was going to start losing weight tomorrow.
Problem for me was, I'm always "present me."
As other people have said, you can have McDonald's or anything else you want and lose weight. Just pay attention to your calories in/out. As time goes on, you'll find yourself more satisfied choosing what many call "healthier" foods for the calories, and rich stuff like McDonalds and cheesecake won't be worth the calorie expense to you except maybe on occasion.
Good luck.0 -
It's not so much a "last meal" in the sense that you mean, per se, but I never eat fast food anymore. It's not because I am trying to deprive myself of it, but more the fact that I get ill from eating that sort of food.
It's still important to eat something you enjoy, though. Just do it in moderation.0 -

I had to stop this destructive relationship with food. I cannot treat food as a bonus. Food is fuel. I am an addict that has to control my addiction to the pleasure that food can bring. This means that I cannot have empty pleasure meals or just like an addict I will fall off the wagon. I don't remember my last meal before I started because it was not memorable it was just a regular day a day that I decided I had enough and the change couldn't wait till tomorrow.
Most diets start tomorrow. Most diets fail. Life changes start today. If you have to wait till tomorrow you probably won't be any more ready tomorrow than you were today.0 -
I had a "last meal" for dinner the day before I started. Chipotle and Coke. I did it because I wanted to really commit to eating healthier. The first few days were difficult, the eating especially. I'm almost at my goal weight; I hope to maintain my newly-acquired behaviors and better relationship with food.0

Nice thought in theory, but in practice not so much. Life happens and unnecessary pressure won't do anyone any good. Make promises and commitments about stuff that actually matters.
In this case, commit to doing the best you can each day, as that is all you can do and all anyone with even a bit of common sense will ask from you. That is good enough.0
