Misconceptions

I've seen a lot of misconceptions on here about nutrition and fitness in general. The posts about needing help getting motivated or wanting results but not willing to change is ridiculous. Get off your *kitten*, do your research, hire a coach, whatever you have to do to make your goals. The first time I got lean was because I motivated myself and did a ton of reading on bodybuilding.com, and I still feel like I've only scratched the surface
*Weight loss is easy, it all boils down to how much you want it
*Women, start lifting weights for more results. more muscle = more fat burning. Many of you seem to think lifting weights will make you look like a bodybuilder overnight. Those bodybuilders take years to get there and a lot of "extra supplementation"
*You don't have to give up all the foods you love to make your goals; I occasionally eat krispy kreme, pop tarts, and In-N-Out burger
and lastly
You can have excuses or results, not both

You said 'you all think'. That is wrong.0 -

Then why do you say "you all"? That implies all women...You all seem to think lifting weights will make you look like a bodybuilder overnight.0 -

Maybe editing the OP would help....0 -

I see what you're saying. First post on here, didn't even think about editing it0

True words, honest, but perhaps a little brutal lumping all females together. I would hazard a guess that there are plenty of males not wanting to look like body builders either. My DH included. A little defined musculature for either sex is healthy looking and makes a statement that you care about your body enough to strengthen it.
You know what they say assuming does....
Some probably do, but not all, and maybe not even many.
I will speak for myself. I hate weights, but I do do it because what you say is true. I much prefer cardio, but begrudgingly do my weights routine. And I do feel better than I have in decades.

I don't think lifting weights will make me bulky. I have done a hardcore routine in the past, and I leaned out, dropped body fat and inches, and gained muscle definition. I didn't look at all "bulky" or "manly." I just find it so boring sometimes, and it's hard work! But I know it works, so I continue to work on it, even if I can only get in 10 minutes here and there. I don't know that I will ever love it, but I do like the results.0 -
Most of your points have been beaten to death in the discussion boards. Understandable that you are new and want to help.0

I know you're trying hard to backpedal, but it's not working. I could say "many men overgeneralize about women's personal fitness goals" (which probably has a bit of truth to it, based on your OP), but it sure doesn't need to be said.
I don't lift, but your comments seem to suggest that I MUST, otherwise I won't get the "results". There's more than one "ideal" fitness program, and just because one person's preference doesn't match your own doesn't mean one won't get "results."
I'm sure glad my friend list is populated with amazing "heavy lifting" women that don't assume I'm dumb or ignorant for not doing what they do.0 -
Wow, thank you for enlightening our tiny little minds! How could we have possibly figured this out without you?
I lift heavy without worry that it is going to make me look masculine. A butterfly tattoo though--WAY too feminine for my taste.

I love all these threads where men come in and tell women what to do re lifting. It's so nice that we have permission.0

You're welcome! I'm not saying do what I say, or only one thing works.
not sure what a butterfly tattoo has to do with it but, whatever floats your boat0 -

This is actually the third or fourth thread I've seen in the past few days along these lines... must be something in the air0 -

Couldn't agreed more! Men & women have different hormones & body structure and therefore women would have a very hard time to be muscular like the men when lifting weights. I started lifting weights over 20 years ago and really hated. Now I started back because couple of my friends are trying it plus the machines have detail explanation on how to do it & what muscles are toning. Back then we only had dumb bells & benches, very boring. I've been doing it once a week for 2 months now and addicting to it! I could see my muscles getting toned firmed, but not bulky. Lifting weights also helps preventing osteoporosis and helps strengthening my cardio exercises as it strengthens different muscle groups.0

When a woman says she doesn't want to get "bulky"
What most people think she means:
What she actually means:
It would be so easy if there weren't emotional implications as well. There is a reason people refer to "mind, body, spirit". You really need unity of them all to succeed.0
